We are once again in the test laboratory, and this time we had a product from ReSound in our hands, or rather, on our ear. The full product name is Nexia 7 ITC, and it is categorized among devices of a higher quality level. Due to its comfortable fit in the outer ear canal, it has good acoustic properties. The Nexia 7 ITC is worn in the ear, and it is a discreet, small hearing aid suitable for both mild and more significant hearing needs.
Hearing comfort
At least as important as speech understanding is hearing comfort. After all, our environment should sound as realistic and pleasant as possible. So let’s take a look at noise management: In this model, which ReSound offers here, the manufacturer provides customers with comprehensive noise management. Naturally, noise suppression is integrated to alleviate exhausting background noises. The Nexia 7 ITC has a quite respectable noise cancellation feature. Even when it gets loud, the listening experience remains pleasant. There is also wind management, which we find very good, as many people enjoy spending time outdoors. The reduction of wind noise occurs here at a medium level.
We are pleased to find good and efficient impulse sound damping here. It is definitely useful in everyday life, as it noticeably cushions the sound of door slamming, dishes clattering, or similarly jarring noises. Spatial hearing is reliably supported by multifunctional microphones and is definitely practical. The Nexia 7 ITC has 14 adjustable frequency bands, placing it in the middle range. A good acoustician can certainly extract reasonable sound quality from it.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy has not yet been implemented in the Nexia 7 ITC.

Operation & connectivity
Most functions are automatically activated by this ReSound model. However, it can sometimes be very useful to be able to expand the range of functions a little more. In our test, we found out what options we have here. The simplest way to operate is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This model has one too. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for incremental volume adjustment. Or do you need different special programs for your professional everyday life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Those who want to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. If desired, there is a remote control for the hearing aid. This allows effortless volume adjustment. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.
Voice commands are a fairly new way of operating hearing aids. However, we do not have this option in this model yet. That’s not a major issue – the main thing is to be able to hear well. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick fingertip tap without having to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.
Apps for hearing aids are widespread today. This one for the Nexia 7 ITC piqued our curiosity. It is fun to use this app because it expands the functionality of the hearing aid with some very useful tools. For our digital everyday life, a streaming option would be nice. The device in question meets our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.

How does one manage with the hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will evaluate. Because only if such a device works simply and smoothly can one become familiar with it. In the Nexia 7 ITC, we experienced an effective situational automation that supports our hearing well. This already ensures that we do not have to constantly adjust the hearing aid settings. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually adapt to the new hearing impressions.
The Nexia 7 ITC is not rechargeable. It is powered by hearing aid batteries size 312. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: Daily charging of batteries is eliminated; the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on one battery.
We had a carefree daily life during our testing due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bath water or saltwater.

Extras
As there is increasingly more storage space in apps or the hearing aids themselves, it is worth taking a look at possible extra features. Here's how it looks: ReSound has integrated a sound generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
A very good added benefit comes from the remote maintenance service. Through the app, one can get in touch with their hearing care professional and describe their hearing issue. They can then adjust the settings accordingly and load them into the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a great service.
Some hearing aids can track specific health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Nexia 7 ITC. This ReSound hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need those for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
