This test report is about the Nexia 9 CIC. It was developed by ReSound and covers mild to profound hearing losses. This variant is worn in the ear. The Nexia 9 CIC is a small hearing aid with a very slim design from the premium class. We achieve clear sound transmission through its direct placement in the ear canal.
Hearing comfort
In the first chapter, we assess the quality of noise management. We refer to this as listening comfort, as these features determine how pleasant the hearing aid user perceives the sound of their hearing aids. However, noises can be of various natures and require different tools for suppression. With the Nexia 9 CIC, the manufacturer provides a comprehensive noise management system to the customer. First, we look at noise suppression. This is designed to manage everyday sounds like ventilation or refrigerator noises. This ReSound model has a very effective noise suppression implemented. It can be tailored by the audiologist to individual sensitivities and provides exactly the level of attenuation that the customer desires. This ensures you are well prepared for demanding listening environments. Sudden, clattering noises are noticeably and sufficiently attenuated, which we find pleasant. A multi-level wind noise management system is also included. This ensures that listening outdoors is pleasant and free from disturbances. Anyone looking for a hearing aid with a lot of flexibility will find the Nexia 9 CIC to be a great choice. It has 17 frequency bands, offering excellent adjustment options. The sound can be modified to individual preferences, even after several years. Instruments for spatial hearing are missing here, yet we give it full marks. Spatial hearing remains intact because the hearing aid sits directly in the ear canal. This is where sound also reaches non-hearing aid users. This is a real advantage of this special, small design. Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data with the help of artificial intelligence, but this device does not yet incorporate that.

Operation & connectivity
The control options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as one might like. The basic functions operate automatically, of course. We wanted to know how users can further access the Nexia 9 CIC. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, one can adjust the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. Using it is, of course, optional. We would have liked a remote control, but ReSound does not offer one for this model. So no points here.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from ReSound cannot yet. This would be practical when fingers are less agile or when one simply likes smart gadgets. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be conceivable, triggering a specific function by tapping the ear with one's fingers. However, this option is not available in the Nexia 9 CIC.
If you are looking for an app, unfortunately, you won’t find one here. The Nexia 9 CIC has to get by without smart control functions. This point is lost. Unfortunately, we have to do without a streaming function and continue to hold the smartphone to our ears in the usual way.

Simplicity & security
Another point in our checklist is handling. Is everything easy and reliable? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in daily life? With top-notch situation recognition, Nexia 9 CIC has completely convinced us. The hearing aid seamlessly adapts to the acoustic environment and requires almost no intervention from us. Hearing feels entirely normal. Very important in terms of simplicity is the support during the adjustment period. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. Our test device has an acclimatization manager that helps us through the adjustment phase with very small volume adjustments. After a few weeks or months, we have then reached the calculated amplification level.
The Nexia 9 CIC is not rechargeable. It continues to get its energy from size 10 disposable batteries that need to be changed every few days.
The Nexia 9 is nearly dust and waterproof, and with its IP 68 rating, it is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras
Sometimes it's the little things that make a hearing aid perfect. That's why we take a quick look at the extras that might be included: A special tinnitus program can be programmed in the Nexia 9 CIC upon request. This can generate stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.
Unfortunately, there is no option for remote adjustment. So anyone who needs optimization and wants to change their hearing aid settings will have to visit a hearing professional.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Nexia 9 CIC. Other hearing aids already offer a few advanced options like a fall alert or reminder functions. We don't find this here, and that's not too dramatic, because the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
