ReSound introduces the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRW, a model for the budget-conscious. It can compensate for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing needs. It is a small mini hearing aid that provides good sound quality by housing the speaker directly in the ear canal. It is worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
First, we evaluate the hearing comfort features. What types of noises does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily life? In this test device, we found only a few options to influence comfort. As in all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise cancellation here. It is intended to reduce monotone, noisy background sounds so that they are less prominent. With the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRW, we are not exactly spoiled, but we can live well with simple noise reduction.
This hearing aid can recognize wind noise, but the reduction is hardly noticeable. Points are deducted for the lack of impulse noise suppression. Normally, this dampens short, clattering sounds. But those who choose this hearing aid should not let that bother them. While the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRW doesn't have many adjustable equalizer bands, the 12 should be sufficient for a good listening experience. Spatial hearing with the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRW requires a bit of practice, but the adaptive microphone system offers quite good support in social situations.

How can one fully harness the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We found out what access options are available with the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRW. For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume up or down, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special listening situations from there. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is the remote control, which fits in any pocket. If the person speaking to you is too quiet again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
In our test, we did not find any voice control options. This function is not necessarily required, but we would have liked it nonetheless. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, tap control could be a possibility, which would allow a specific function to be triggered by tapping your fingers on your ear. However, this option is not available in the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRW.
Our favorite tool for hearing aids is the app, and we really like this one. In addition to the obligatory volume controls, there is also an option for sound modulation. This significantly expands the potential of the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRW and provides relief when listening becomes exhausting. For our digital everyday life, a streaming option would be nice. The device in question meets our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.

Let's continue the test: How is the user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? The Quattro NEO 5 61-DRW can independently differentiate between quiet and loud environments, but there isn't much more to the program automation. Manual adjustment options are hard to do without here. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.

The data sheet certifies the ReSound device with an IP protection class certification of 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust doesn’t stand a chance, and water also cannot penetrate the casing as long it doesn’t submerge deeper than 1.5 m. Nevertheless, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in daily life, you can behave completely carefree.

At the end of our test report, there’s still a bit of space for the extra features: Worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. This will benefit anyone plagued by annoying ear noises. Pleasant, soft sounds are adjusted to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus sinks into the sound environment and no longer stands out as disturbing.
A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a precious commodity. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. If someone needs a new programming for their hearing aids, they can easily contact the audiologist via the app and describe their hearing preferences. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send an individual setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be immediately tested. This definitely earns extra points in our test.
Many hearing aids still come with a few health functions today. However, since the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRW does not have any specialized sensors for them, we cannot present any particular features here. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle functions, but these are not available in the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRW. Other hearing aids may score points with speech translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
