Hearing comfort
In the Hearing Comfort section, we look at how a hearing aid manages all the background noise. Comfortable noise management significantly contributes to a user liking and regularly wearing their hearing aids. In this ReSound device, we found very few options for comfort adjustment. The regular noise suppression is designed to reduce uniform, hissing background noises. In the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRWC, we find rather below-average noise suppression. Noise-sensitive individuals may have to make some compromises regarding hearing comfort.
A filter for clattering, cracking noises is not present here – unfortunately, no point for that. For active outdoor fans, we always find wind noise management useful. While there is one in this device, it is not very effective. You also cannot adjust it individually. The adjustable microphones help detect specific directions and can also assist in noise cancellation, but the spatial sound was not very natural. We always take a close look at the number of equalizer bands. They are essential for tuning the sound of a hearing aid as closely as possible to the user's hearing curve. Additionally, speech noise management also occurs within these bands. The Quattro NEO 5 61-DRWC has 12 of them. That's okay.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRWC does not yet incorporate this strategy.

Operation & connectivity
Every person has their own unique hearing needs. It is advantageous if one can customize their hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our test, we discovered the following access options: The simplest way to operate is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This model has one as well. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a gradual adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional daily life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you prefer to keep everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. We do like the small remote controls, and we have found one for this model. This allows for discreet adjustments to the volume or sound.
We do not yet find the modern method of operating via voice command in the Quattro NEO 5 61-DRWC. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a light touch, without the need to press a button. However, this feature is not yet implemented here.
As expected, we have a suitable application for the smartphone. Here, we have a powerful app that trusts its user and provides a comprehensive toolkit. The Quattro NEO 5 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy phone calls in stereo. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We find that good and gladly award points.

Another point on our checklist is handling. Does everything work simply and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in daily life? We expected a bit more support in everyday hearing from the automatic situation recognition. While the situations "Quiet" and "Noise" are recognized, the sound environment is usually a bit more complex. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually achieved. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.
The Quattro NEO 5 61-DRWC contains a battery. We think that's great because rechargeable hearing aids are absolutely modern. You don’t have to have batteries lying around everywhere, and you also don’t have to change the battery in the middle of a concert. The hearing aid can simply be placed in the charging station overnight and will then have enough energy for the following day.
The hearing aid has been classified in IP protection class 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against the ingress of dust. Water also cannot easily harm the hearing aid. This makes it well-equipped for outdoor activities where it can sometimes get wet and dirty. However, do not necessarily go bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can change the composition and ultimately cause damage.

Finally, we are interested in whether there are any additional goodies: ReSound has integrated a sound generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide some relaxation.
ReSound is keeping up with the times and offers a forward-looking feature with the remote adjustment service. Busy people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer commute to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
This Quattro NEO 5 variant does not have sensors, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, daily steps are counted. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have that function on board. The device from ReSound focuses on essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation functions. While that would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good listening experience.
