The noise suppression is a very traditional feature that filters out all monotonous, uniform sounds from the environment and reduces their loudness. In the Savi 4 61-DRW, we are not dealing with the most powerful variant, but in everyday life, the noise suppression should be sufficient.

Wind noise can sometimes become a problem outdoors. Therefore, a moderate wind noise management feature is integrated here. The impulse noise management is relatively simple; it dampens short loud sounds a bit, which is acceptable. The Savi 4 61-DRW has 12 adjustable frequency bands, placing it in the mid-range. Further programs for special listening situations can also be selected through it. A remote control is available for the Savi 4 61-DRW. It's quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume option as well as various listening programs.

Voice commands are a fairly new way of controlling hearing aids. However, this feature is not yet available in this model. That's not a big deal – the main thing is that you can hear well. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With it, you could change the function with a short tap on your ear. But this is not yet available in the Savi 4 61-DRW.

In our opinion, an app is better than a remote control, as everyone probably has a smartphone in their pocket. The app for the Savi 4 61-DRW is really good; it has a lot of clever features that make hearing in difficult situations much easier. It is quite complex, but you can quickly get the hang of it. You can practice in demo mode. There are also a few surprising additional tools – have fun discovering them! For our digital everyday life, a streaming option would not be bad. The device at hand meets our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz radio module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.

The automatic situation recognition is supposed to make listening easier. However, the Savi 4 61-DRW does not handle changing or difficult acoustic environments very well, as it lacks some adaptive algorithms. Additionally, one should always have a few extra hearing programs set up for this device. The adjustment to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automated acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely perceptible steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I just need to do nothing more than wear my hearing aids regularly.

We regret that the Savi 4 61-DRW does not have a rechargeable battery but operates with hearing aid batteries size 312. This is not a major issue, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand, this hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it runs for a longer time on a single battery.

The hearing aid has been classified in protection class IP 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water cannot easily damage the hearing aid either. Thus, it is well-equipped for outdoor activities where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not necessarily go bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and may ultimately cause damage.

The tinnitus fades into the general noise and doesn’t annoy anymore. This is a simple yet effective tool and earns extra points from us.

A very good additional benefit is provided by the remote support offer. Through the app, you can contact your audiologist and describe your hearing problem. They can adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. For people with limited time or a long commute, this is a great service.

If ReSound had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individualized health tracking could even be possible. However, this is not the case here. These points are lost in the overall assessment of the Savi 4 61-DRW. The device from ReSound focuses on the essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation features. While that would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good listening experience.
