To create a hearing aid test report, we take a close look at the hearing aids and, if possible, wear them ourselves for a while. This time it was the Insio 3 IX IIC from Signia, a device from a good, mid-range quality level that can compensate for moderate hearing needs. The Insio 3 IX IIC is a lightweight, barely visible and barely noticeable hearing aid that sits inside the ear. Its audiologically reasonable wearing position directly in the ear canal already meets the basic requirements for decent sound.

Hearing comfort

One of our favorite chapters is hearing comfort, because it addresses one of the most important topics in discussions with our customers: background noise. Ideally, everyone would only want to hear speech and block out all other sounds. However, it's not that simple. Without sounds, our lives would sound very thin and empty. That's why hearing aids are designed to keep background noises in check, but not to eliminate them entirely.

With the Insio 3 IX IIC, a solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. The mandatory noise suppression is supposed to react to anything that creates a fairly consistent sound, such as the heating or the range hood. This device features a fairly well-functioning noise reduction.

We are pleased that the Insio 3 IX IIC includes wind reduction. The noise filter in this hearing aid is quite robust and practical for everyday use. Spatial hearing with the Insio 3 IX IIC occurs in a very natural way. Due to its special placement deep in the ear canal, the function of the outer ear is preserved, and there are no losses in directional hearing. 16 adjustable equalizer bands provide enough flexibility to generate a reliable, tailored listening experience.

Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from Signia.

Operation & connectivity

Buttons, switches, controls ... or would you prefer an app? Controls can significantly expand the functionality of hearing aids. Is there something like that in the Insio 3 IX IIC? We checked. There is no control directly on the hearing aid. For space reasons, a button is sometimes omitted. A remote control is available for the Insio 3 IX IIC. It's quite convenient, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up-down option as well as different hearing programs.

We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. But there is currently none in the Insio 3 IX IIC. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With that, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But that's not available in the Insio 3 IX IIC yet.

If you wish, you can use the free smartphone app. This app likely only covers the essentials. Loud, quiet, and programs – that's all there is. Unfortunately, wireless connectivity options are completely absent in this version. That's not very up-to-date, but it is probably due to the small size of the hearing aid.

Simplicity & security

In the next step, we want to address the topic of user-friendliness. Is the Insio 3 IX IIC easy to handle? Is it weatherproof? Do you have to do a lot to get along with it? Here are our answers: When it comes to simplicity, it primarily involves easy, effortless listening. This works quite well with the existing situational automatic in the Insio 3 IX IIC. However, if the acoustic environment is a bit more varied, the automatic control reaches its limits, and we prefer to revert to manual adjustment options. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has had hearing difficulties for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is an enormous relief. The volume does not have to be turned up to the maximum immediately. You can start at a lower level and gradually, almost unnoticed, the amplification approaches the target.

The Insio 3 IX IIC is not rechargeable. It operates with hearing aid batteries size 10. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: Daily charging of batteries is not necessary, the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on a single battery.

The data sheet certifies the Signia device with an IP protection class rating of 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the housing unless it is submerged deeper than 1.5 meters. Nevertheless, be cautious. For example, shampoo changes the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can act completely carefree.

Extras

Now we have looked at the most important features of the hearing aid. But before we come to an end, we want to know if there are a few additional features: Worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. This will benefit all those who are troubled by annoying ear noises. Pleasant, soft sounds are set up to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is no longer noticeable.

Online services are becoming more and more common. There is also often a remote service for hearing aids. However, Signia has not yet planned this for its Insio 3 IX IIC. So, you have to go to the specialist store every time you want to have your hearing aid reprogrammed. No extra point for that.

If Signia had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individual health tracking could even take place. However, this is not the case here. These points are lost for the Insio 3 IX IIC in the scoring. Other hearing aids already offer a few enhanced options like a fall alarm or reminder functions. We do not find that here, and that is not so dramatic, because the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
