The Signia Intuis P 4.0 HdO in review
What exactly can the Intuis P 4.0 HdO from the manufacturer Signia do? First of all, it is an ear device that was previously widely used and sits behind the ear. It covers light, moderate, and even significant hearing needs. This model is a small hearing aid from the entry-level class. What can it deliver in everyday hearing? What comfort features does it come with? We took a closer look at it.
Hearing comfort
Good speech understanding is a given in contemporary hearing aids. Equally important is listening comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right, is hearing perceived as pleasant. That's why we take a look at the comfort features: In the Intuis P 4.0 BTE, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. Normal background noises such as street noise, the sound of a vacuum cleaner, or that from a fan should be dampened by classic noise suppression. While this Signia hearing aid does have a very basic noise suppression system, it only provides minimal attenuation.
Even in cheaper hearing aids, we often find some dampening for impulsive, clattering noises today. But unfortunately, this clever tool is not included here, which is disappointing. We painfully missed wind noise suppression. Those who are often outside might find themselves disturbed by the noticeably audible wind noises. There is no support for spatial hearing; the Intuis P 4.0 BTE cannot convince in this regard. The equalizer in the Intuis P 4.0 BTE only has 6 bands. This means that changes can only be made to quite large frequency ranges. Therefore, one always modifies a lot at once, and the small nuances cannot be implemented.
Signia does not yet employ artificial intelligence in this version.

Operation & connectivity
Although hearing aids are now very intelligent, they still cannot read the thoughts of the hearing aid wearer. Therefore, the automation sometimes reaches its limits. Individual adjustment options can be really useful, so let's take a quick look at the options available with the Intuis P 4.0 BTE: There is usually a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Intuis P 4.0 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. A remote control for the hearing aid is available upon request, allowing you to easily adjust the volume. The handling is not only child’s play; no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.
Voice commands are a pretty new way of operating hearing aids. However, we do not have this option in this model yet. That's not a big deal – the main thing is that one can hear well. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger, without having to press a button. However, this feature is not yet implemented here.
If you like, you can download an app. This provides a convenient and discreet way to adjust the volume or hearing programs on the Intuis P 4.0 BTE. It all works quite well. Unfortunately, we have to do without a streaming function here and still hold the smartphone to the ear in the usual way.

Simplicity & security
No matter how great the hearing aid sounds: nothing is more unpleasant than a product that constantly presents us with obstacles in everyday life. Therefore, simplicity and safety are very important topics in our hearing aid tests: the Intuis P 4.0 HdO features a solid everyday automatic that is likely sufficient for a quieter life. However, for more complex hearing environments, we recommend the additional manual programs. Very important regarding simplicity is the support during the acclimatization process. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. In our test device, there is an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the adjustment period. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
Many hearing aids today have a rechargeable battery, but the Intuis P 4.0 HdO still operates with disposable batteries. This is somewhat cumbersome to handle and also puts a strain on the environment.
We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes dangerous after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,3
Extras
The finale belongs to the extras, meaning small additional features that could earn the hearing aid some extra points: Tinnitus is a topic for many people, but unfortunately, this hearing aid does not have a specific tinnitus sound program. So we cannot award any extra points here.
A clever tool is the integrated remote service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce resource. Therefore, such a remote service is absolutely appropriate. If someone needs a new programming for their hearing aids, they can easily contact the audiologist through the app and describe their hearing preferences. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a customized setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tried out immediately. That definitely deserves extra points in our test.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track personal health data, for example. However, the Intuis P 4.0 HdO does not offer this. The device from Signia focuses on essential hearing functions and does not provide extras like voice assistants or translation functions. While that could have been fun, it is not necessary for a good listening experience.
Rating Extras: 3,3
Conclusion: Signia Intuis P 4.0 HdO
In summary, this device ranks in the lower positions and delivers us hardly more than a solid basic equipment. Of course, one can understand speech with the device, just like with all hearing aids, but not much is done to alleviate listening effort. Our overall grade: 4.55. Please always relate this grade to the price range of this hearing aid.
