The Signia Pure 1 IX Charge&Go T in review

Here we take a look at a hearing aid that is rather affordable and worn behind the ear. It is called Pure 1 IX Charge&Go T and is made by the manufacturer Signia. It can be used by all people who have a mild, moderate, or more severe hearing need and want a nice, unobtrusive hearing aid. By placing the speaker directly in the ear canal, it has very good sound quality.

Hearing comfort

Our first test category is hearing comfort. Actually, we could also say sound comfort, because that's mainly what it's about. Does the hearing aid sound very technical or beautifully natural? Are too many background noises amplified, or do they stay well in the background? In this device from Signia, we find only the absolutely necessary when it comes to hearing comfort. The noise reduction is a very traditional feature; it filters out all smooth, uniform sounds from the environment and reduces their volume. In the Pure 1 IX Charge&Go T, this only works to a limited extent. There is nothing more than basic noise suppression here.

We found a basic wind detection, but unfortunately, there’s nothing adjustable. The impulse sound management is not really recommendable in this device. Short, loud sounds still sound quite harsh. Let's take a quick look at the equalizer: with 8 bands, it is not particularly flexible. With a few more channels, we would surely have a nicer, more natural sound experience. But at least we can reasonably adjust the sound to our hearing preferences. A natural spatial hearing is lacking in this device, which poses some challenges in everyday life. We can no longer reliably determine directions. Those with limited vision should definitely consider another hearing aid.

Sometimes, the hearing aid acoustician is just not nearby when a hearing problem arises. The Pure 1 IX Charge&Go T helps you with its app, as it features a special assistant that makes precise adjustments based on artificial intelligence for your hearing moment.

Operation & connectivity

Most hearing aids automatically adapt to their environment. However, it's sometimes very practical to make adjustments yourself. After all, the hearing aid doesn’t know how you’re feeling. We took a look at the control options available with the Pure 1 IX Charge&Go T: Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Pure 1 IX as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. Those who are not keen on touching their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.

In our testing, we found no option for voice control. This feature isn't strictly necessary, but we would have welcomed it nonetheless. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tapping control. This involves simply tapping your ear with your fingers, which then triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Signia device.

The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Although the app isn't one of our favorites, it is still a helpful addition to the Pure 1 IX Charge&Go T. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headset, receiving phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. The requirement is a compatible smartphone that features 2.4 GHz technology. The greatest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not only in one ear but both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal needs.

Simplicity & security

To continue taking the perspective of hearing aid users, we obviously also need a practical usability test. Here's what we found: The program automation in the Pure 1 IX Charge&Go T provides relatively little support. Without a few individual hearing programs, one will probably struggle in a lively everyday environment. This device supports the adjustment to the new hearing sensation with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I don't have to do anything else but wear my hearing aids regularly.

A charger is included with the Pure 1 IX Charge&Go T, as it has built-in batteries. This is contemporary, user-friendly, and we expect this from a modern hearing aid.

The datasheet certifies the Signia device with an IP protection class of 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust doesn't stand a chance, and water won't penetrate the housing as long as it doesn't submerge deeper than 1.5 m. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, however, you can behave completely carefree.

Extras

At the end of our test report, there is still a little space for the extra features: A special tinnitus program can be programmed on request in the Pure 1 IX Charge&Go T. This allows for stimulating, pleasant sounds to be generated that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.

The ability for remote adjustment is something we really like. It is very helpful when you only want to change a small detail in the hearing aid settings but do not want to drive to the hearing specialist. Instead, contact is made via the app, and the hearing professional sends back an adjusted data package in the same way.

A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can, for example, track some personal health data. However, the Pure 1 IX Charge&Go T does not offer this. This Signia hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you do not need these for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
