Here we take a look at a hearing aid from the more affordable category that is worn behind the ear. It is called Pure 1 X 312T and comes from the manufacturer Signia. It can be used by anyone who has almost any hearing need and wants a small, barely visible hearing aid. Due to the smart decision to place the speaker directly in the ear canal, it has very good sound properties.

Hearing comfort

In the Hearing Comfort section, we examine how a hearing aid handles all the background noise. A comfortable noise management system significantly contributes to a user liking and regularly wearing their hearing aids. With this Signia device, we find only the absolutely necessary when it comes to hearing comfort. The regular noise suppression is tasked with softening uniform, rumbling background noises. The Pure 1 X 312T only offers a minimal baseline reduction. Users of hearing aids should have a certain tolerance for noise here.

A filter for rattling or popping sounds is not present here – unfortunately, no point for that. We searched in vain for wind management; there is no wind noise reduction here. We lack natural spatial hearing with this device, which poses some difficulties in everyday life. We can no longer reliably recognize directions. Those who also have limited vision should consider choosing a different hearing aid. The 8 frequency channels are okay. However, it may be that the programming for individual hearing needs is not quite so precise and that users might have to make some acoustic compromises.

The app also includes a special help feature based on artificial intelligence. This allows you to find a personalized setting for your hearing aids that significantly improves hearing comfort in a specific moment or typical situation.

Every person has their own hearing needs. It is advantageous to be able to customize hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our test, we discovered the following access options: There is a button directly on the hearing aid. This allows you to change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to the customer's wishes. The use is, of course, optional. Those who are not comfortable touching their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.

In our test, we found no option for voice control. This feature isn't necessarily essential, but we would have appreciated it. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be feasible, which would trigger a specific function by tapping the ear with your fingers. However, this option is not available in the Pure 1 X 312T.

An app on the smartphone is supposed to make operation easier, and we found one for the Pure 1 X 312T. In addition to basic functions like volume and programs, we also found a few additional buttons for personalization. You no longer need headphones here, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears - provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security

Now let's take a look at how the usage is shaped in everyday life. Is the handling easy? Do I get a safe device? The first points in the chapter on simplicity are a disadvantage for the Pure 1 X 312T, as it does not have automatic acclimatization adjustment. We have to manually readjust until we can cope with the respective hearing situation. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.

Unfortunately, the Pure 1 X 312T is not equipped with a battery, so regular size 312 batteries are required for operation.

With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it can also withstand prolonged immersion in water, and it is protected against contact as well.

Extras

Before we come to the end, let's take a look at the extras: tinnitus is a topic for many people, but unfortunately this hearing aid does not have a special tinnitus sound program. So we cannot award any extra points here.

We really like the remote adjustment feature. It's very helpful whenever you want to make just a small change to the hearing aid settings but don't want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you make contact via the app, and the hearing professional sends back a customized data package in the same way.

A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track personal health data, for example. However, the Pure 1 X 312T does not offer this. This Signia hearing aid has no additional lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would just have made the product a bit cooler.
