The Signia Pure 2 AX Charge&Go in review

Diese Technik ist bereits etwas veraltet und erhält daher einen Abzug in der Gesamtbewertung. Neuer und besser ist der aktuelle Signia IX-Chip.

Here we take a look at a hearing aid from the affordable segment that is worn behind the ear. It is called Pure 2 AX Charge&Go and comes from the manufacturer Signia. It can be used by all people who have mild, moderate, and even severe hearing needs and desire a discreet hearing aid. Due to the cleverly chosen outsourcing of the speaker into the ear canal, it has very good sound characteristics.

Hearing comfort

First, we took a look at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. With this hearing aid, we found very few options for influencing comfort. The traditional noise suppression ensures that uniform, unimportant sounds are slightly reduced. In the Pure 2 AX Charge&Go, the effectiveness of the noise suppression is slightly above the required minimum. Nevertheless, the sounds will still be audible. When it comes to wind noise suppression, we are dealing with a relatively simple wind damper.

The Pure 2 AX Charge&Go also offers impulse sound suppression. It reliably detects all short, clattering noises, but the attenuation is rather low. We cannot create a true 3D spatial sound with the current test device. Especially outdoors, one should often look around to locate individual sound sources. However, focusing on a particular speaker works quite well with the integrated directional microphones. With 8 frequency bands, we are not completely satisfied with the Charge&Go, but it should be sufficient for uncomplicated hearing curves. The sound is probably not entirely natural this way.

If the listening comfort is not enough for you, you can make additional personal adjustments in the app. There is a special mode that utilizes artificial intelligence. This allows numerous real sound data to be used to help you effectively and purposefully.

Operation & connectivity

How can one fully utilize the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We found out what access options are available with the Pure 2 AX Charge&Go. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Pure 2 AX as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is through the remote control. It fits in any pocket. When the person across from you speaks too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote.

There has been a trend for some time now to adjust hearing aids using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Signia is not quite there with this device yet. Don't mind it; this feature would be nice, but it's not essential. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of a finger without needing to press a button. However, this feature has not been implemented here yet.

An app on the smartphone is supposed to make operation easier, and we found one for the Pure 2 AX Charge&Go as well. In addition to the basic functions like volume and programs, we find a few more buttons for personalization. Issues with phone calls on the smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are transmitted completely wirelessly to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls and for listening to music while exercising. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is required.

Simplicity & security

Usability is the next aspect we want to address. Here, we focus on practicality and the question of how easy and safe it is to live with the hearing aid. The situational recognition did not impress us much. Quiet and loud environments are identified, and the Pure 2 AX Charge&Go adjusts accordingly. However, as soon as the acoustic conditions become more demanding and various noise sources appear simultaneously, one may need to make some adjustments to the hearing aid manually. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when one has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is a tremendous relief. The volume does not have to be immediately set to maximum. One can start at a lower level and gradually, almost imperceptibly, the amplification approaches the target.

The Pure 2 AX Charge&Go is rechargeable and no longer requires batteries. This is not only environmentally friendly but also very convenient to use, freeing me from the burden of constantly thinking about battery supplies.

With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it can withstand longer submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

Extras

Finally, let's take a quick look at whether there are any extras: We noticed the tinnitus option here. Those who wish can have a special tinnitus program set up. It can provide a gentle background noise to help distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be designed according to personal hearing preferences.

We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If one doesn't have the opportunity to visit the hearing specialist, they can instead contact them via the app, briefly describe their hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they can load it into their hearing aids.

There are no sensors in this Pure 2 AX variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps taken throughout the day are counted. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have that feature. This Signia hearing aid does not come with any additional lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but those are not necessary for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
