The Signia Silk 7 X CIC in review
Diese Technik ist bereits etwas veraltet und erhält daher einen Abzug in der Gesamtbewertung. Neuer und besser ist der aktuelle Signia IX-Chip.
Here we take a look at a hearing aid from the premium category that is worn in the ear. It is called Silk 7 X CIC and comes from the manufacturer Signia. It can be used by anyone with mild to moderate hearing loss who desires a small, barely noticeable hearing aid. Due to its well-suited wearing position in the ear canal, it has very good sound characteristics.
Hearing comfort
The listening comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. That’s why we first looked at how the hearing aid handles background noise. In this model, which Signia presents to us, solid comfort programming by the audiologist is possible. Of course, noise suppression is integrated, which aims to mitigate exhausting background sounds. In the Silk 7 X CIC, the noise suppression can be adjusted according to the customer's preferences. A decent wind management helps to suppress minor turbulence at the hearing aid microphones. For all outdoor enthusiasts, this feature is essential.
There is also a so-called impulse filter. It slightly dampens short and loud sounds. This is a sensible function, but we would have liked a bit more control depth. The Silk 7 X CIC impresses us with its natural, spatial hearing. The outer ear retains its function, making the 3D feeling just as if you were not wearing a hearing aid at all. For a precise, realistic listening experience, the number of adjustable frequency bands is of great importance. With 20, this Signia device is a true top model and allows for differentiated fine-tuning over several years.
An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this Signia model does not yet apply it.
Rating Hearing comfort: 2,5

Signia Silk 7 X CIC:
Operation & connectivity
“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there perhaps an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let's take a look at the control and connectivity options. First, we are interested in whether there is a button on the device. Unfortunately, with the CIC, we will be disappointed as there is no immediate adjustment possibility. We do like small remote controls, and for this model, we have found one. This allows for discreet small adjustments to the volume or sound.
In the test, we did not find any option for voice control. This function is not necessarily required, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap, as this Signia model would have needed specific sensors in the casing for that.
In the app store, we found an app from Signia for the Silk 7 X CIC. However, the app does not look very promising. We could not discover more than the basic functions. Unfortunately, wireless connectivity options are completely missing in this version. This is not quite up to date, but it is probably due to the small size of the hearing aid.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 3,3

Simplicity & security
Let’s continue with the test: How is the user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? A well-functioning situational recognition creates a lot of relaxation in everyday hearing. You don't have to constantly switch the device and can easily indulge in automated adjustments. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new auditory impressions.
Unfortunately, the Silk 7 X CIC is not equipped with a battery, so regular size 10 batteries are needed for operation.
Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not have any special protection against incoming dust or moisture; at least there is no certification that defines the robustness of the device. It may not be very suitable for an active lifestyle.
Rating Simplicity & security: 3,0

Signia Silk 7 X CIC:
Extras
Finally, let's briefly see if there are any extras: A special tinnitus program can be programmed into the Silk 7 X CIC upon request. This can generate stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.
Unfortunately, there is no option for remote adjustment. So anyone who needs optimization and wants to change their hearing aid settings will have to visit an audiologist.
This Silk 7 X variant does not have sensors, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, this would count the steps throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have that function onboard. Other hearing aids already have a few extended options such as a fall alarm or reminder functions. We do not find this here, and that is not so dramatic, as the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
Rating Extras: 3,3
Conclusion: Signia Silk 7 X CIC
This test device ranks in the lower positions overall and lacks some features. We give it a rating of 4.1. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
The rather inconspicuous brand name Signia has a rich history: It originated from the hearing aid manufacturer Siemens. Why there are no Siemens hearing aids today is explained here: Siemens.
