The Evolv AI 2000 CIC from Starkey is a very small hearing aid that is worn in the ear. Its position directly in the ear canal allows for very good sound transmission. The Evolv AI 2000 CIC is a hearing aid from the premium price segment and is suitable for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing losses.
Hearing comfort
At least as important as speech understanding is listening comfort. After all, our environment should sound as realistic and pleasant as possible. So let’s take a look at noise management: In this model, which Starkey offers here, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to dampen bothersome background noises. In the Evolv AI 2000 CIC, we are not dealing with the most powerful variant, but in everyday life, the noise suppression should suffice. A slightly stronger wind reduction would be desirable, but the one in the Evolv AI 2000 CIC is certainly livable.
Even in more affordable hearing aids, we often find damping for impulsive, clattering noises today. However, this clever tool is unfortunately not included here, which is very unfortunate. With the Evolv AI 2000 CIC, there is no need to reconstruct 3D hearing, as it remains completely intact. This is made possible by the deep fit in the ear canal. The number of frequency bands is very important for good speech-noise distinction. With 20, this hearing aid is among the best and offers excellent adjustment options.

Most functions of this Starkey model are activated automatically. However, it can be very useful to expand the functionality a bit. In our tests, we found out what options we have here. A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can increase or decrease the volume in several steps. Additional programs for special hearing situations can also be activated with it. Those who prefer to do without the button can simply have it disabled. Unfortunately, this hearing aid cannot be adjusted via a remote control – a few points are lost there.
In our tests, we found no option for voice control. This feature is not absolutely necessary, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. Control of the hearing aids with a simple tap is not available in this Starkey model, as it would have required specific sensors in the casing.
The Evolv AI 2000 CIC can be operated with an app. In our eyes, it is somewhat rudimentary, but you will definitely benefit from the convenience of handling it. Unfortunately, wireless connection options are completely lacking in this variant. This is no longer quite up to date, but it is likely due to the small size of the hearing aid.

We give a big plus for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This makes it considerably easier to get used to the new sound.
The Evolv AI 2000 CIC gets its energy from small disposable batteries that need to be replaced every few days. While this is not complicated, it should be considered, especially for those with motor skill issues. A rechargeable battery would be much simpler to handle.
Hearing aids are exposed to external influences. However, this model does not have any special coating against moisture or dust. This is unusual nowadays and surprises us. Therefore, optimal care is essential here.

Sometimes there are additional features in hearing aids that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Starkey device: We were really impressed by the optional tinnitus program. There are indeed relatively many people who are occasionally or often plagued by a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Evolv AI 2000 CIC is actually nothing more than a sound generator. It aims to produce broadband sounds or noises that gently and pleasantly stimulate all hearing areas. The tinnitus fades into the background and is no longer perceived as bothersome.
Online services are becoming increasingly common. There is often a remote maintenance service for hearing aids as well. However, Starkey has not yet provided such a service for its Evolv AI 2000 CIC. So, every time you want to reprogram your hearing aid, you have to go to the specialist shop. No extra point for that.
This Evolv AI 2000 variant does not have sensors, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this function onboard. It also forgoes additional features like special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or language translators. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
