We get a small, barely noticeable hearing aid from the more affordable price range that is worn in the ear. The optimal position at the front of the ear canal lays the foundation for good hearing success, as the sound has only a very short path to the eardrum. As a result, all sounds reach exactly where we want them to.
The B Insera 1 312 provides sufficient amplification for mild to moderate hearing loss.
Hearing comfort
First, we evaluate the hearing comfort features. What types of noises does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied everyday life? Here with this test device, we found only a few options for influencing comfort. As with all hearing aids, we also find the typical background noise suppression here. It is supposed to reduce monotonous, noisy ambient sounds to the point where they no longer dominate. The B Insera 1 312 has very simple noise suppression, but it only provides very slight damping.
Wind noise is always an issue when the hearing aid microphones are somewhat exposed. With the B Insera 1 312, this is not a problem at all, as it features intelligent, effective wind noise suppression. It not only mitigates the audible turbulence but also preserves speech understanding at the same time. Furthermore, we are surprised at how well the impulse sound management works here. Nothing crashes, nothing rattles – very good! With 12 frequency bands, you can achieve a pretty good sound setup. A passionate musician may not be completely satisfied, but this number is entirely sufficient for normal hearing and sound needs. Spatial hearing would also be an important point, but not much can be said about this Unitron hearing aid. There are no special functions that can somehow support or replicate spatial hearing. This is something to consider especially if you are often outdoors in public spaces.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence have not yet been implemented in this hearing aid from Unitron.

Operation & connectivity
The majority of features are activated automatically by this Unitron model. However, it can be very useful to have the option to expand the functionality a bit further. In our test, we discovered what options we have here. First, we found a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical because it is the easiest and fastest way to make changes. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If someone prefers not to adjust anything directly on the ear, the button can, of course, be deactivated. A remote control is available for the B Insera 1 312. It is quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up and down option as well as various hearing programs.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but unfortunately, this one from Unitron cannot yet. It would be practical for those with limited finger mobility or for those who simply enjoy smart gadgets. Tap Control would also have been an interesting feature. With that, a quick tap on the ear would change the function. But this is not available in the B Insera 1 312 yet.
Manual operation includes an app. This allows for discreet access to the hearing aid. In addition to volume control, you can also adjust hearing programs and a few other functions. For our digital everyday life, a streaming option would be beneficial. The device in question fulfills our wish and includes a 2.4 GHz wireless module. With this, you can send phone calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.

We are, of course, also interested in how quickly one can get used to the B Insera 1 312 and how easy daily use is. As far as relaxed listening is concerned, the B Insera 1 312 is only easy if one predominantly stays in quiet listening environments. If it gets louder or more challenging, we receive no support from adaptive situational automatics. At best, one can only assist with manual controls. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new listening impressions.
The B Insera 1 312 is not rechargeable; it is powered by hearing aid batteries. Unlike a rechargeable battery, it does not need to be charged daily; however, the size 312 battery needs to be replaced after a few days.
Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not have special protection against incoming dust or moisture, and there is no certification that defines the robustness of the device. It may not be well-suited for an active everyday life.

Finally, we are interested in whether there are any additional goodies on top: Unitron has integrated a noise generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
A real added value is the remote maintenance service. For a change in the hearing aid settings, there is no longer a need to visit the specialist shop in person, but one can directly contact the audiologist via the app. Through a cloud service, the new data package can then be loaded into the hearing aids. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track some personal health data, for example. However, the B Insera 1 312 does not offer this. This Unitron hearing aid has no further lifestyle options on board. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
