Here we take a look at a hearing aid of excellent quality that is worn in the ear. It is called B Insera 9 10 NW O and comes from the manufacturer Unitron. It can be used by anyone with a moderate hearing need who desires a delicate, barely noticeable hearing aid. Due to the discreet wearing location in the ear canal, it has very good sound qualities.
Hearing comfort
First, we evaluate the hearing comfort features. What types of sounds does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily routine? Here, the manufacturer provides the customer with a comprehensive noise management system. As in all hearing aids, we also find the typical noise cancellation feature here. It is designed to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds so that they no longer dominate. The noise suppression of the B Insera 9 10 NW O delivers a rather moderate performance. If you are not too sensitive to noise, this might be sufficient.
The B Insera 9 10 NW O is equipped with an incredibly good wind detection system. Nothing stands in the way of a walk by the sea. Extremely useful is the impulse sound suppression. It picks up all clattering, popping, and crackling noises and reliably mitigates them. A brilliant listening experience is also based on the number of frequency bands. The more bands there are and the narrower the individual frequency channels, the better the hearing aid can be tailored to individual preferences. Here we have a total of 20 bands. This not only creates a great sound impression, but the speech and noise suppression can also work very meticulously. There are no tools for spatial hearing, yet we still award full marks. Spatial hearing is maintained because the hearing aid sits directly in the ear canal. And that is exactly where the sound reaches even non-hearing aid users. This is a real advantage of this specific, compact design.
Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but that is not yet the case with this device.

Operation & connectivity
Digital hearing aids have long evolved beyond the basic amplification function. Apps and other control options significantly expand the range of features, which is why we are also looking at this important topic with the B Insera 9 10 NW O from Unitron. The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it as well. It can be programmed according to your desire. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for stepwise adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional daily life or your hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you prefer to leave everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. Those who are not keen on touching their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
In our testing, we found no option for voice control. This function is not necessarily needed but would have pleased us. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is tapping control. This involves simply tapping your ear with your fingers, which triggers a specific function. However, this feature is not available in this Unitron device.
If you are looking for an app, unfortunately, you won’t find one here. The B Insera 9 10 NW O has to manage without smart control functions. That point is lost. Wireless connectivity options are completely absent in this variant. This is somewhat outdated, but it is probably due to the small size of the hearing aid.

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes automated functions, as well as robustness and user-friendliness. With top-class situation recognition, we were completely convinced by the B Insera 9 10 NW O. The hearing aid seamlessly adapts to the acoustic environment and almost never requires our intervention. Hearing feels completely natural. A great bonus of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been hearing poorly for a long time and is wearing a hearing aid for the first time, this is a huge relief. The volume does not have to be fully increased immediately. You can start at a lower level, and gradually and almost imperceptibly, the amplification approaches the target.
Unfortunately, the B Insera 9 10 NW O is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so regular size 10 batteries are needed for operation.
We enjoyed a carefree everyday life during our test thanks to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We walked through the rain and afterwards removed the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bathwater or saltwater.

Bevor wir zum Ende kommen, werfen wir noch einen Blick auf die Extras: Richtig gut gefallen hat uns das optionale Tinnitusprogramm. Es gibt doch relativ viele Menschen, die gelegentlich oder häufig von einem Pfeifen oder Rauschen im Ohr geplagt sind. Das Tinnitusprogramm im B Insera 9 10 NW O ist eigentlich nichts weiter als ein Klanggenerator. Es geht darum, breitbandige Geräusche oder Klänge zu erzeugen, die sanft und angenehm alle Hörbereiche stimulieren. Der Tinnitus geht darin unter und wird nicht mehr als störend wahrgenommen.
Wie sieht es denn aus mit einer Fernwartung? Solche Online-Services ersparen den Besuch im Fachgeschäft, weil man direkt über die App Kontakt um Akustik-Profi aufnehmen kann. Leider haben wir sowas für das B Insera 9 10 NW O nicht gefunden. Schade, das wäre ein tolles Zusatztool gewesen.
Hätte Unitron Bewegungssensoren in dieses Hörgerät integriert, dann könnte sogar ein individuelles Gesundheits-Tracking erfolgen. Das ist hier aber nicht der Fall. Diese Punkte gehen dem B Insera 9 10 NW O in der Wertung verloren. Der Funktionsumfang im B Insera 9 10 NW O beschränkt sich auf das normale Hören, was auch völlig in Ordnung ist. Zusatzfunktionen wie Sturzalarm oder Siri-Verknüpfungen haben schon einen ordentlichen Mehrwert, sind aber für einen guten Hörausgleich nicht relevant.
