Of course, noise suppression is integrated to alleviate tiring background noises. In the S Moxi 1 R, it only works to a limited extent. Looking at the price, that might be acceptable. Some hearing aids reach their limits when the wind sweeps across the microphones outside. That can get pretty loud. But Unitron has a solution: a highly damping, adjustable wind noise suppression. It works very well and helps those who enjoy being outdoors.
Furthermore, we are surprised at how well impulse sound management works here. Nothing crashes, nothing rattles - very good! We miss a good spatial sound, but the automatic focus can indeed be helpful in situations with multiple people. With 12 frequency bands, you can already set a pretty good sound. A passionate musician might not be entirely satisfied, but this number is completely sufficient for normal hearing and sound needs.
In the signal processing of the S Moxi 1 R, artificial intelligence is also used. This allows for a much more realistic analysis of the hearing environment, and especially clarity in noisy surroundings is significantly better.

Sometimes it's not so bad if you can adjust the volume of the hearing aid a bit, for example, when the neighbor is loudly mowing the lawn or someone is speaking very quietly with you. Many models have special control functions for this reason. You can use them, but you don't have to. We looked into this with the S Moxi 1 R: A very quick way to correct the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can adjust it louder or quieter in several steps. Additional programs for special hearing situations can also be activated. If you want to do without the button, you can simply have it deactivated. Those who don't like to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows you to make changes to the hearing aid comfortably and discreetly.
The modern method of control via voice command is not yet found in the S Moxi 1 R. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With it, you can change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But this is not available here in the S Moxi 1 R yet.
In the App Store, we also find a suitable application from Unitron. The app for the S Moxi 1 R is not one of our highlights, but it has everything you need for your hearing systems. You don't need headphones here anymore, as it has a wireless option and can transfer sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears – if the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

We would have liked to see an automatic program feature in the S Moxi 1 R that adapts to the environment by itself. However, this is not available, so unfortunately, there is a deduction in this regard. Some people find it difficult to adjust, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The duration can range from a few weeks to several months, and this is individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that you do not even notice that there has been a volume increase.
A great relief in everyday life is the integrated battery. With this, my S Moxi 1 R always has enough energy for the entire day, and I no longer have to worry about the batteries suddenly running out in the middle of an event. Even with limited dexterity, a battery system is very helpful because the need to insert small button cells is eliminated.
The hearing aid has been classified in the IP protection class 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water also cannot easily damage the hearing aid. This makes it well-equipped for outdoor activities where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not necessarily go bathing or swimming with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and may ultimately cause damage.

We have addressed the most important factors in our test report. Before we finish, we look for a few extras: We were really pleased with the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently plagued by a ringing or hissing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the S Moxi 1 R is essentially nothing more than a sound generator. It aims to create broad-spectrum noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all areas of hearing. The tinnitus gets drowned out and is no longer perceived as disturbing.
A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce resource. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. Those who need a new programming for their hearing aids can easily contact their audiologist via the app and describe their hearing wishes. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a custom setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tried out immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.
There are no sensors in this S Moxi 1 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have that function on board. You should take a closer look at the app of this Unitron device. There are actually a few extras in it that significantly expand the functionality of these hearing aids. We really think these additional functions are great!
