The Unitron V Moxi 5 RT in review
Unitron presents the V Moxi 5 RT, a model from the premium price range. It can compensate for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing losses. It is a small hearing aid that delivers good sound quality by placing the speaker directly in the ear canal. It is worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. However, from our experience in the hearing acoustics retail business, we also know that hearing comfort is at least just as important. It is about processing background noise in a way that it does not hinder speech understanding while still creating a natural sound picture. In the test of the V Moxi 5 RT, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management. Let’s take a look at the individual features:
Of course, this Unitron device has noise suppression, as it has become standard. Noise suppression means that uniform and rather monotonous sounds (e.g. air conditioning, vacuum cleaner…) are dampened. Here, the noise suppression works quite well. While there are other models that reduce background noise significantly more, this one should suffice for normal everyday hearing.
Once you have experienced impulse sound suppression in a hearing aid, you never want to give it up. The V Moxi 5 RT has this feature and can handle all short and intense sound events with ease. This includes, for example, the clattering of dishes in the kitchen or footfall sounds on a hard floor. We are particularly impressed with how effectively this hearing aid suppresses wind noise and how stable it operates even in stronger winds. A high number of frequency bands aids in separating speech from noise. With its 16 bands, the V Moxi 5 RT is certainly in the forefront. Adaptive microphone systems facilitate spatial hearing. However, one needs to get accustomed to the new sound, especially at the beginning it is not always clear where a sound is coming from.
The use of artificial intelligence has also made its way into hearing aids, as seen here in the V Moxi 5 RT. This provides significantly more data to identify speech and noise. In our experience, the sound of hearing aids with AI is perceived as particularly precise and realistic.

Operation & connectivity
Everyone has their own specific hearing needs. Therefore, it is advantageous to be able to customize hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our test, we discovered the following access options: The simplest control option is always a button located directly on the hearing aid. This model has one as well. It can be programmed according to your preferences. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for gradual volume adjustment. Or do you need different special programs for your professional daily life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. Anyone who wants to keep everything in automatic mode can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. A discreet way to change the hearing aid is through the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person speaking is too quiet again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
Voice control is a modern way of operating hearing aids. Unitron has integrated this feature into its model, saving us the trouble of feeling for a small button. We were quite impressed with the tap control during the test. Just tap your ear briefly, and your Unitron hearing aid knows it should do something. We were already familiar with this sensor-controlled technology from wireless headphones, and it's great that there's now something like this in hearing aids.
As is common today, we also find a smartphone app for the V Moxi 5 RT. This app includes solid basic functions and adds a few extra goodies. You no longer need headphones here, as it has a wireless option and can stream sounds directly from the smartphone to your ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security
User-friendliness is the next aspect we want to address. This is about everyday usability and the question of how easy and safe it is to navigate life with the hearing aid. We categorize the situation recognition integrated in the V Moxi 5 RT as more of a mid-range feature. The most important loud and quiet situations are recognized and adapted. However, for acoustically more complex moments, this is not quite sufficient, and one cannot avoid additional manual adjustment options. We award a big bonus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This makes it significantly easier to get used to the new sound.
The V Moxi 5 RT is equipped with a battery. We find this very good, as rechargeable hearing aids are absolutely up to date. You don’t have to have batteries lying around everywhere, nor do you have to change the battery in the middle of a concert. The hearing aid simply plugs into the charging station overnight and has enough energy for the following day.
The datasheet certifies the Unitron device with an IP rating of 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust doesn’t stand a chance, and water doesn’t penetrate the housing as long as it doesn’t submerge deeper than 1.5 meters. Still, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, changes the surface tension of water. You should also avoid salt water. However, in everyday life, you can behave quite carefree.

Unitron V Moxi 5 RT:
Extras
Sometimes, hearing aids have additional features that can be quite useful. Let's see what this Unitron device offers: Unitron has integrated a noise generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
A very good added benefit is the remote maintenance option. Through the app, you can contact your hearing care professional and describe your hearing problem. They can adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids through the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a great service.
There are no sensors in this V Moxi 5 variant, so the popular health tracking feature cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this function. The device also does not include additional features such as special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or a language translator. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
