The Unitron V Stride 3 P R in review
The purchase of a hearing aid requires careful consideration, as it comes with a considerable price, and you want to enjoy it for many years. Therefore, we look at various parameters and provide you with the results of our product tests. This test report is about the V Stride 3 P R from Unitron. It is a completely normal, medium-sized hearing aid from a good, mid-range quality level and is suitable for moderate, greater, and fluctuating hearing losses. It is worn behind the ear. Through a standard hearing aid with a thick or thin plastic tube, it has quite good acoustic sound properties right from the start.
Hearing comfort
Good speech understanding is a given in modern hearing aids. Equally important is listening comfort. Only when the ratio of speech transmission to the level of background noise is right will hearing be perceived as pleasant. That’s why we take a look at the comfort features: With the V Stride 3 P R, solid comfort programming is possible by the audiologist. Normal environmental noises like street noise, the sound of a vacuum cleaner, or that of a fan should be dampened by classic noise suppression. In this Unitron hearing aid, we had hoped for a bit more adjustment depth, but – well.
Extremely useful is the impulse sound suppression. It captures all clattering, popping, and crackling noises and reliably reduces them. With this hearing aid, we are impressed by how clearly the wind noises are suppressed and how stable the device operates even in stronger winds. The hearing aid automatically decides whether the microphones should focus on a speaker or not. There is a decent spatial perception, but accurately determining directions or assessing distances through hearing is not that easy. The V Stride 3 P R does not have many adjustable equalizer bands, but the 12 should suffice for a good listening experience.
Interestingly, artificial intelligence also plays a role here in signal processing. Sound is not only analyzed based on typical frequency patterns. Particularly intense, noisy situations are perceived as more realistic and pleasant.
Rating Hearing comfort: 2,5
Operation & connectivity
Occasionally, one finds themselves in situations where it would be beneficial if the hearing aid were set differently. After all, we live in hectic times where the acoustic environment frequently changes. Most hearing aids have specific options to allow users to influence their settings. Here’s how it looks with the V Stride 3 P R: First, we discovered a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical, as it is the simplest and fastest way to make a change. The volume can be adjusted through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If someone prefers not to make any adjustments directly at the ear, the button can of course be deactivated. A remote control is available for the V Stride 3 P R. It is quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume option as well as different hearing programs.
Voice control is a modern way to operate hearing aids. Unitron has integrated this feature into its model, saving us from having to search for a small button. Touch control requires that sensors be implemented in the hearing aid, and this is indeed the case here. You can simply tap the outer ear with a couple of fingers or the flat of your hand to trigger a command. This could be, for example, the activation of a TV adapter or answering a phone call. Your hearing care professional will configure the exact settings with you.
The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Even if the app is not one of our favorites, it is still a handy addition to the V Stride 3 P R. You no longer need headphones, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds from the smartphone directly to your ears – provided the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 1,3

Simplicity & security
To continue to adopt the perspective of hearing aid users, we naturally also need a test for everyday suitability. This is what we found: we don’t necessarily experience simple, comfortable hearing with the V Stride 3 P R. In a quieter everyday setting, one can definitely manage, but as soon as you have a varied hearing routine, you can't avoid manual adjustments. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound.
A great relief in everyday life is the built-in battery. With this, my V Stride 3 P R always has enough energy for the whole day, and I no longer have to worry about the batteries suddenly dying in the middle of an event. Even for those with limited dexterity, a battery system is very helpful because the insertion of small button cells is no longer necessary.
With an IP68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse conditions. Dust cannot penetrate, it can withstand longer submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,0

Extras
At the end of our test report, there is still a little space for the extra features: Here we noticed the tinnitus option. If desired, one can set up a special tinnitus program. This applies a gentle noise to the ears if necessary, to distract from the annoying tinnitus a little. The sounds can be designed according to personal hearing preferences.
We really like the remote adjustment feature. It is very helpful whenever you want to make a slight change to the hearing aid settings but don’t want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you make contact through the app, and the hearing professional sends a customized data package back the same way.
If Unitron had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, it could even allow for personalized health tracking. However, this is not the case here. These points are missed in the rating of the V Stride 3 P R. Other hearing aids already offer some advanced options like a fall alarm or reminder functions. We don’t find that here, and that’s not so dramatic, since the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
