The Unitron V Stride 7 P R in review

Our testers have examined another hearing aid at the highest quality level. We present: the Unitron V Stride 7 P R. Here we have a conventional hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. It can be used by anyone who wants to compensate for moderate, stronger, and changing hearing losses. The V Stride 7 P R is a nice, but quite visible hearing aid. Is it worth buying this model? We will reveal the details.

Hearing comfort

Hearing aids are meant not only to bring speech to the ear but also to sound pleasant. So let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for a lively everyday life? Here with this test device, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. As in every hearing aid, typical noise cancellation is included here as well. It is designed to reduce consistent, noisy background sounds to the point where they no longer dominate. With the V Stride 7 P R, the manufacturer has made an effort and included efficient noise reduction.

We are impressed with how clearly the wind noise is suppressed with this hearing aid and how stable the device works even in stronger winds. Extremely useful is the impulse sound suppression. It effectively catches all rattling, popping, and crackling noises and reliably softens them. One of the most important evaluation criteria in hearing aids is the number of frequency bands. They determine the fine-tuning options. The V Stride 7 P R has the very best conditions with 20 bands to achieve precise sound results. In the following years, one can make differentiated adjustments here time and again. We are satisfied with the spatial functions. The hearing aid has adaptive microphones that support spatial hearing very well.

By the way, it might be that you perceive the sound of this Unitron device as clearer and more natural, especially in noisy environments. This is probably due to the implemented artificial intelligence. The hearing aid has already been fed with millions of real sounds, leading to a significantly improved distinction between speech and noise.

Operation & connectivity

Since you probably don't have your hearing specialist by your side at all times, it is quite helpful to be able to make changes to the hearing aid yourself as well. There are various control options available, and we will look at which ones the V Stride 7 P R has. A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can increase or decrease the volume in several steps. You can also activate additional programs for special hearing situations with it. If you want to do without the button, it can simply be deactivated. A remote control is available for the V Stride 7 P R. It is quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up-down option as well as various hearing programs.

Voice control for devices is widespread in other areas, and now it is also available for hearing aids. The V Stride 7 P R can adjust the volume or switch to another hearing program with a short voice command. We are particularly excited about the Tap control. A quick tap on your ear with your fingers switches the hearing aid to another mode. Here, Unitron is a bit ahead of others with its model. In our view, the Tap control is not only modern but also incredibly convenient.

As is common today, we also find a smartphone app for the V Stride 7 P R. This app includes solid basic functions and adds a few extras on top. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This transforms the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headphone, receiving phone calls and other sounds directly in your ear. The prerequisite is a suitable smartphone that includes 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that you can hear phone calls not only in one ear but in both. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal preferences.

Simplicity & security

We continue our test and try to see how easy this hearing aid is to handle. After all, it is meant to simplify the everyday life of hearing aid users and not complicate it further. The V Stride 7 P R has a comprehensive set of stored hearing situations. When a typical pattern is recognized, the hearing aid activates the correct setting, fully automatically. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been experiencing hearing difficulties for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is a significant relief. The volume does not need to be immediately turned up to the maximum. One can start at a lower level, and gradually, almost imperceptibly, the amplification approaches the target.

A major relief in everyday life is the integrated battery. With this, my V Stride 7 P R always has enough power for the entire day, and I no longer have to worry that the batteries will suddenly run out in the middle of an event. Even for those with limited dexterity, a battery system is very helpful because it eliminates the need to insert small button cells.

The V Stride 7 is nearly dust and waterproof and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras

Sometimes it's the little things that make a hearing aid perfect. That's why we quickly check for the extras that might be included: Are you among the tinnitus sufferers? Then you could use the optional tinnitus program in the V Stride 7 P R. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction technique, and it works surprisingly well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and no longer bothers you. This is a simple yet effective tool and gets extra points from us.

A clever tool is the integrated remote service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce resource. That's why such a remote service is absolutely appropriate. If someone needs a new programming for their hearing aids, they can easily contact the audiologist through the app and describe their hearing preferences. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a customized setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tested immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.

Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Unitron model lacks the sensors for this service. This Unitron hearing aid has no additional lifestyle options on board. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
