The Unitron V Stride 5 P R in review
This test report introduces you to the V Stride 5 P R from the manufacturer Unitron. Brief model classification: The V Stride 5 P R is a medium-sized hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. It can compensate for nearly every hearing need and is a hearing aid from the upper price range. A good sound is achieved through traditional hearing aids.
Hearing comfort
Hearing aids are meant to not only bring speech to the ear but also to sound pleasant. So, let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? Are they muted or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for a lively everyday life? Here, in this test device, the manufacturer provides the customer with a comprehensive noise management system. Like in every hearing aid, it also includes typical noise cancellation. It is designed to reduce uniform, background noises to the point where they no longer dominate. The noise cancellation in the V Stride 5 P R is solid. There are hearing aids that have significantly more effective noise reduction, but this one should suffice for normal demands.
We are impressed with how clearly the wind noise is suppressed with this hearing aid and how stable the device operates even in stronger winds. Extremely useful is the impulse sound suppression. It picks up all clattering, popping, and crackling noises and reliably dampens them. The more bands the equalizer in the hearing aid has, the more reliably it separates speech from background noises. The sound can also be shaped better. The V Stride 5 P R has 16 bands, making it one of the more powerful models. Adaptive microphone systems facilitate spatial hearing. However, one has to get used to the new sound; especially at the beginning, it can sometimes be unclear where a noise is coming from.
Artificial intelligence has also made its way into hearing aids, for example, here in the V Stride 5 P R. This means that much more data is available to identify speech and noise. From our experience, the sound of hearing aids with AI is perceived as particularly precise and realistic.

Operation & connectivity
Since you probably don't have your audiologist constantly by your side, it is quite helpful to be able to make changes to the hearing aid yourself. There are various operation options available, and we will look at which ones the V Stride 5 P R has. A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can increase or decrease the volume in several stages. Additional programs for special hearing situations can also be activated with it. If you prefer to do without the button, you can simply have it deactivated. A remote control is available for the V Stride 5 P R. It is very practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume option as well as various hearing programs.
Sometimes it's just impractical to pull out the smartphone or the remote control first. This is where voice control proves to be a clever alternative. Even with limited dexterity, operating it via voice command can be a real help. We are particularly excited about the Tap control. A quick tap on the ear with your fingers and the hearing aid switches to another mode. Here, Unitron is ahead of others with its model. In our opinion, the Tap control is not only up-to-date but also extremely convenient.
An app on the smartphone is supposed to make operation easier, and we have found one for the V Stride 5 P R as well. In addition to the basic functions like volume and programs, we find a few more buttons for personalization. You no longer need headphones here, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds directly from the smartphone to the ears—if the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 1,3

Simplicity & security
We continue our test and try out how easy this hearing aid is to handle. After all, it is meant to simplify the everyday life of hearing aid users and not make it more complicated. Hearing is greatly facilitated by good situational awareness. In the V Stride 5 P R, we found a fairly solid automatic feature that handles the most common hearing situations well. This could be sufficient if the acoustic conditions are not too challenging. A crucial aspect of simplicity for us is the support during the acclimatization phase. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it is sometimes difficult to perceive everything at a realistic volume. In our test device, there is an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the adjustment phase. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
The V Stride 5 P R is rechargeable and no longer requires batteries. This is not only environmentally friendly but also very convenient in handling, freeing me from the burden of constantly thinking about battery replacement.
The V Stride 5 is almost dust- and waterproof and with its IP 68 classification, it is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras
The finale belongs to the extras, meaning small additional features that could earn the hearing aid a few extra points: The tinnitus program is definitely worth mentioning. Anyone plagued by annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, soft sounds are set to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is hardly noticeable.
A very good added benefit is the offering of remote maintenance. Through the app, one can contact their audiologist and describe their hearing problem. The audiologist can then adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids through the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a great service.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, since the V Stride 5 P R does not have any specific sensors for that purpose, we cannot present any special features here. The functionality of the V Stride 5 P R is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional features like fall alerts or Siri integration add considerable value, but they are not relevant for achieving good hearing balance.
