With this Widex device, we find only the absolute essentials when it comes to hearing comfort. The regular noise reduction is designed to soften uniform, hissing background noises. A so-called bang filter would have been nice, as it would have made the clattering when unloading the dishwasher a bit more bearable. However, we have to do without that in the Magnify 100 BTE 312. When the wind sweeps over the microphones outside in nature, we wish for wind noise suppression. However, this is missing here, and in some outdoor situations, it can significantly impair hearing comfort. We miss a good spatial sound, but the automatic focus can be quite helpful in situations with multiple people. We don't find the low number of frequency channels very optimal. The device has only 6 of them, which leaves little room for the initial programming as well as for long-term adjustments, and some loss in sound quality must also be accepted.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet present in the Magnify 100 BTE 312.

How can you fully utilize the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We discovered the access options available with the Magnify 100 BTE 312. First, we found a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very practical because it is the easiest and fastest way to make adjustments. You can adjust the volume through it, and different hearing programs can also be activated. If you prefer not to adjust anything directly at the ear, you can of course disable the button. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very convenient. For us, it is one of the most comfortable ways to increase or decrease the volume of the hearing aid or switch to another hearing program. No one notices it; there is no need to touch the ear.
Voice commands are a fairly new way to operate hearing aids. However, this model does not have this option yet. This is not a big deal - the main thing is that you can hear well. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap of the finger in this Widex model, as it would require specific sensors in the housing.
In the app stores, there is a free app that can be used if desired. We tried it out and went through it relatively quickly. The range of functions is rather modest. Nevertheless, it is a convenient and discreet way to temporarily set the Magnify 100 BTE 312 differently. A smartphone or tablet can easily be connected to a small streaming device that transmits sound wirelessly to the hearing aid.

Next in the test: How does it fare in terms of user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? Regarding relaxed listening, the Magnify 100 BTE 312 is only easy to use when one is predominantly in quiet listening environments. If it gets louder or more challenging, we receive no support from adaptive situational automation. At best, one can only supplement with manual controls. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually adjust to the new auditory impressions.
The Magnify 100 BTE 312 gets its power from small disposable batteries that need to be replaced every few days. While it's not rocket science, it should be considered, especially for those with motor issues. A rechargeable battery would be much simpler to handle.
We also take a look at the robustness of the casing and discover the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This means dust cannot enter at all, and water only becomes problematic after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Those who need a new programming of their hearing aids can easily contact their audiologist through the app and describe their hearing preferences. Via a cloud service, the professional can then send a customized setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tested immediately. This definitely earns extra points in our test.
If Widex had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, it could even allow for personalized health tracking. However, that is not the case here. These points are lost for the Magnify 100 BTE 312 in the rating. Other hearing aids already offer a few extended options like a fall alarm or reminder functions. We do not find that here, and that is not so dramatic, as the normal hearing functions are still the most important.
