The Widex Magnify 100 RIC 312 in review
Could this hearing aid from Widex's program be the right one for you? In our review of the Magnify 100 RIC 312, we have highlighted the most important aspects. Here we have a small mini hearing aid from the more budget-friendly category that is worn behind the ear. With the discreet and simultaneously intelligent placement of the speaker in the ear canal, the foundation for good hearing success is laid, as the sound has only a very short distance to travel to the eardrum. This ensures that all tones really reach the place where we want them.
The Magnify 100 RIC 312 provides sufficient amplification for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing losses.
Hearing comfort
The comfort features determine how pleasant everyday listening is experienced. In this hearing aid, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. A classic noise suppression is supposed to reduce annoying background noises to a tolerable level. In the Magnify 100 RIC 312, we are not exactly pampered, but we can live with basic noise suppression. We have painfully missed wind noise suppression. Those who are often outdoors might find the clearly audible wind noises quite bothersome.
Even in cheaper hearing aids, we often find damping for impulsive, rattling sounds today. However, this clever tool is unfortunately not included here, which is a pity. The device recognizes whether the microphones should transmit everything or focus forward. This can help in conversation situations but does not replace true spatial hearing. As for the number of adjustable equalizer bands, we are dealing with 6 in a rather simple device. Of course, you can understand, but the sound is not quite what we would actually wish for.
An exciting topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet applied in this Widex model.

Operation & connectivity
Almost everyone of us owns a smartphone, so the question arises whether it can also be connected to the new hearing aid. Let's take a look at the connectivity and usability of the Magnify 100 RIC 312. There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, you can change the volume or activate additional hearing programs. It can be programmed according to customer preferences. Of course, using it is optional. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the hearing aid louder or quieter or to switch to another hearing program. No one notices it; there’s no need to reach for the ear.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but unfortunately, this one from Widex cannot yet. It would be practical when fingers are less mobile or if one simply likes smart gadgets. Tap Control would have been an interesting feature. With that, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But that is not available here in the Magnify 100 RIC 312 yet.
It is very comfortable to adjust the hearing aids via the app. There is also a free app for the Magnify 100 RIC 312. In our opinion, the range of features is mediocre, but mostly sufficient. It is best to try it out in demo mode beforehand. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls can be transferred to the hearing aids from the smartphone without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into the perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is incredibly comfortable.

Simplicity & security
An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. Unfortunately, the Magnify 100 RIC 312 cannot provide automatic situation recognition; we have to make manual adjustments to hear well in different acoustic situations. The integrated acclimatization manager can be a great help for you when entering the world of hearing aids. Its job is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can relax and gradually get used to the new auditory impressions. More information about acclimatization and other hearing aids with this feature can be found here: Acclimatization to hearing aids.
The Magnify 100 RIC 312 is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so it cannot be charged. It is powered by a hearing aid battery size 312, which needs to be replaced every few days.
We experienced a carefree everyday life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - all without any problems. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to soapy bathwater or saltwater.

Widex Magnify 100 RIC 312:
Extras
Lastly, we are interested in whether there are any additional goodies: We really liked the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently troubled by a ringing or noise in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Magnify 100 RIC 312 is essentially just a sound generator. It aims to produce broad-spectrum noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all areas of hearing. The tinnitus gets drowned out and is no longer perceived as bothersome.
We really appreciate the possibility of remote adjustment. This is very helpful whenever you want to change just a small thing in the hearing aid settings but don’t want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you contact them via the app, and the hearing professional sends a customized data package back the same way.
There are no sensors in this Magnify 100 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have that function onboard. The device from Widex focuses on the essential listening functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation features. While that would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good listening experience.
