The Widex Magnify 60 CIC in review
Here we take a look at a hearing aid from the more affordable category that is worn in the ear. It is called Magnify 60 CIC and is made by the manufacturer Widex. It can be used by anyone with mild to moderate hearing loss who desires a discreet, small hearing aid. Due to its precise location of wear directly in the ear canal, it has very good sound properties.
Hearing comfort
The comfort features determine how pleasant listening in everyday life will feel. In this hearing aid, we found very few options for influencing comfort. A classic noise suppression is supposed to reduce annoying background noises to a tolerable level. In the Magnify 60 CIC, we have to settle for a minimum level of noise suppression. There is no wind management here. This is perfectly fine, as the fit directly in the ear canal already provides a very natural protection against wind noise.
Unfortunately, we did not find a noise filter that reacts to short, loud sounds. Hearing aids like the Magnify 60 CIC preserve the natural spatial perception we have experienced since childhood. The function of the outer ear, head size, head shadow effects - all these parameters create a true, original 3D hearing experience. The Magnify 60 CIC has only 6 frequency bands, just meeting the minimum requirements. One should not have too high expectations in terms of sound quality.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are still not implemented in this hearing aid from Widex.

Widex Magnify 60 CIC:
Operation & connectivity
How can one fully utilize the potential of hearing aids in daily life? We discovered what access options are available with the Magnify 60 CIC. We searched in vain for a button as a quick access option. It likely fell victim to its small design. This is manageable, as the hearing aid automatically makes most settings anyway. We do enjoy small remote controls, and for this model, we found one. This allows for discreet small adjustments to the volume or sound.
We do not yet find the modern form of operation via voice command in the Magnify 60 CIC. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is tap control. This involves simply tapping your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. However, this feature is not available in this Widex device.
There is a free app available in the app stores that can be used if desired. We tried it out and went through it relatively quickly. The range of features is rather modest. Nevertheless, it is a convenient and discreet way to temporarily adjust the Magnify 60 CIC. Since the hearing aid has a wireless module, it can also be used as a headset or headphones. A small additional device, known as a streamer, is required for this. It serves as the interface between the hearing aids and a Bluetooth-enabled audio device. Smartphone, laptop, navigation system - everything can be connected quickly and easily.

Simplicity & security
User-friendliness is the next aspect we want to focus on. Here it is about everyday usability and the question of how easy and safe it is to navigate through life with the hearing aid. Regarding comfortable listening, the Magnify 60 CIC is only easy when one spends most of the time in quiet listening environments. If it gets louder or more challenging, we do not receive support from adaptive situational automatics. If there is any help at all, it can only be provided through manual controls. Some people find it difficult to adjust, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The period can last a few weeks or several months; it is adjustable individually. The individual steps are so small that you hardly notice a volume increase.
We regret that the Magnify 60 CIC does not have a rechargeable battery but operates with hearing aid batteries size 10. This is not problematic, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand, this hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it runs for a long time on a single battery.
With IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it can withstand prolonged immersion in water, and it is also protected against touch.

Extras
Finally, let's take a quick look at whether there are any extras: Widex has integrated a noise generator that plays some soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
A real added value is the remote maintenance service. For a change in the hearing aid settings, you no longer have to go to the specialist shop but can directly contact the acoustician via the app. Through a cloud service, you can then load the new data package into the hearing aids. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track, for example, some personal health data. However, the Magnify 60 CIC does not offer this feature. The hearing aid also forgoes additional functions such as special assistance systems, a fall alert, or language translators. This is not a big deal, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
Rating Extras: 2,5
