The Widex Magnify 60 RIC 312 D in review
What hearing comfort does the Magnify 60 RIC 312 D offer? How is it operated? Is it worth the purchase? You will find answers to these questions in our review of this hearing aid from Widex. First, the basics: It is worn behind the ear, and by placing the speaker directly in the ear canal, sound can easily travel towards the eardrum. This is important, as only in this way can a truly good, wideband sound be produced.
The Magnify 60 RIC 312 D is a small mini hearing aid from the more affordable category that can cover moderate, more severe, and changing hearing losses. Read more details:
Hearing comfort
First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. In this hearing aid, we find only the absolutely necessary when it comes to hearing comfort. The traditional noise suppression helps to reduce uniform, unimportant sounds a bit. In the Magnify 60 RIC 312 D, we have to settle for a minimum level of noise suppression. We sorely missed a wind noise suppression. Those who are often outdoors might find the clearly audible wind noises quite disturbing.
A pulse sound absorber is unfortunately not included in the Magnify 60 RIC 312 D. In our tests, we also look at spatial hearing. While adaptive microphones are integrated here, the wireless connectivity between both ears is missing, which means that true 3D hearing cannot be reconstructed. Nevertheless, one can manage well. With a little practice, directional hearing can be retrained. One more word about the equalizer: With 6, the number of adjustable bands is quite low. Those who are satisfied with the basic character of the hearing aid might find this sufficient. However, for music lovers, we would recommend a higher number of channels.
Other hearing aids are already using artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet implemented in the Magnify 60 RIC 312 D.

Widex Magnify 60 RIC 312 D:
Operation & connectivity
Most hearing aids automatically adjust to their environment. However, it can sometimes be very practical to make changes yourself. After all, the hearing aid doesn't know how you are feeling at the moment. We looked at what control options the Magnify 60 RIC 312 D offers: There is a button directly on the hearing aid. With it, you can adjust the volume or activate additional listening programs. It can be programmed entirely according to customer preferences. Of course, using it is optional. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to turn the hearing aid louder or quieter or switch to another listening program. Nobody notices; there's no need to reach for your ear.
In our tests, we didn’t find a voice control option. This function isn’t strictly necessary, but we would have appreciated it nonetheless. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be possible, which would trigger a specific function by tapping your fingers on your ear. However, this option is not available in the Magnify 60 RIC 312 D.
The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Even though the app isn't one of our favorites, it is a useful addition to the Magnify 60 RIC 312 D. A streaming option would be nice for our digital everyday life. This device meets our wish and comes with a 2.4 GHz radio module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.

Simplicity & security
Let's continue with the test: How is the user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? We would have wished for a program automation in the Magnify 60 RIC 312 D that adapts to the environment by itself. However, this is missing, so unfortunately, we have to deduct points here. Very important regarding simplicity is the support during the acclimatization period. Especially after hearing poorly for years, it can be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. In our test device, there is an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the adjustment phase. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
Unfortunately, the Magnify 60 RIC 312 D is not equipped with a battery, so it requires regular size 312 batteries for operation.
The data sheet certifies the Widex device with an IP protection class 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not enter the housing unless it submerges deeper than 1.5 m. Nevertheless, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave quite carefree.

Extras
At the end of our test report, there is still a little space for the extra features: Worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. Those plagued by bothersome ear noises will benefit from this. Pleasant, quiet sounds are set up to gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is no longer noticeable.
Widex is keeping up with the times and offers a future-oriented feature with the remote adjustment service. Working people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer commute to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
There are no sensors in this Magnify 60 variant, so the popular health tracking is not offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this function on board. The functionality in the Magnify 60 RIC 312 D is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional functions like fall alerts or Siri connections provide added value but are not relevant for good hearing balance.
