The Widex Moment 110 ITE 312 XP in review

Widex offers the Moment 110 ITE 312 XP, a small hearing aid designed to be worn in the ear. It is a hearing aid from the lower mid-range and is suitable for almost every hearing need. The sound outlet located close to the eardrum ensures that sound reaches the eardrum without losses.

Hearing comfort

The hearing comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. Therefore, we first looked at how the hearing aid deals with background noise. For this model, presented to us by Widex, we found few options for comfort influence. Of course, noise suppression is integrated, which is intended to dampen exhausting background noises. In the Moment 110 ITE 312 XP, we find a rather below-average noise suppression. Noise-sensitive individuals will have to make some concessions in terms of hearing comfort. A wind manager is not necessary for this model. It is hidden in the ear canal and is protected from the wind in a completely natural way by the outer ear.

A filter for rattling, popping noises is not present here – unfortunately, this is a downside. In our tests, we also look at spatial hearing. While adaptive microphones are integrated, the wireless connectivity between both ears is lacking, making it impossible to replicate true 3D hearing. Nevertheless, one can manage quite well. With a bit of practice, directional hearing can be retrained. The Moment 110 ITE 312 XP has only 6 frequency bands and barely meets the minimum requirements. In terms of sound quality, one should not have overly high expectations.

The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet in use here.

Operation & connectivity

“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there perhaps an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let's take a look at the control and connection options. Often there is a button on the hearing aid, but we did not find one on this model. Sometimes, a smaller size construction is favored over this control element. This is not too dramatic, as most functions in the hearing aid operate automatically anyway. We do like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet adjustments to the volume or sound.

Voice commands are a fairly new way of operating hearing aids. However, this model does not offer this option yet. That's not a big deal - the main thing is that you can hear well. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger without needing to press a button. This feature is not implemented here yet.

There is a free app available in the app stores that can be used if desired. We tried it out and were relatively quick to get through it. The range of functions is rather modest. Nevertheless, it offers a convenient and unobtrusive way to temporarily adjust the Moment 110 ITE 312 XP. A small, convenient additional tool makes the model streaming-capable and connects it not only with the smartphone but also with the tablet or the hands-free system in the car.

Simplicity & security

User-friendliness is the next aspect we want to address. This is about practicality and the question of how easy and safe it is to live with the hearing aid. Currently, automatic situation recognition is only rudimentarily integrated into the Moment 110 ITE 312 XP. We often have to rely on manual options and adjust our hearing aid to the environments ourselves. We are very pleased with the built-in acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.

Unfortunately, the Moment 110 ITE 312 XP is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, so regular size 312 batteries are needed for operation.

The Moment 110 is almost dust- and water-resistant, and with its IP 68 rating, it is certainly well protected against external influences.

Extras

Finally, we are interested in whether there are any additional goodies: Widex has integrated a sound generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.

A very good added benefit comes from the remote support service. Through the app, one can get in touch with their audiologist and describe their hearing problem. The audiologist can then adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a great service.

Many hearing aids today still include a few health functions. However, since the Moment 110 ITE 312 XP does not have specific sensors for this, we cannot present any particular features here. The hearing aid forgoes additional functions such as special assistance systems, a fall alert, or speech translators. This is not a big issue, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
