The Moment 110 RIC 312 from Widex is a very small hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. By using it as a receiver (= speaker) that fits directly in the ear canal, very good sound transmission is possible. The Moment 110 RIC 312 is a hearing aid from a solid mid-range price and is suitable for nearly any hearing need.

Hearing comfort

First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the hearing experience will be. In this hearing aid, we find only the absolutely necessary when it comes to hearing comfort. Traditional noise suppression ensures that uniform, unimportant sounds are slightly reduced. In the Moment 110 RIC 312, we have a rather simple form of noise suppression that should be sufficient for normal environments. Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not yet have wind noise suppression. Too bad.

A filter for rattling, popping noises is not available here – unfortunately, this is a point lacking. In our tests, we also look at spatial hearing. While adaptive microphones are integrated here, the wireless connection between both ears is missing, making it impossible to reconstruct true 3D hearing. Nevertheless, one can manage well. With a little practice, directional hearing can be retrained. We find the low number of frequency channels less than optimal. The device has only 6 of them, which leaves little room for adjustment during initial programming as well as for long-term adjustments, and some sound quality compromises will have to be accepted.

The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet employed here.

Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one at the Moment 110 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. Those who prefer not to touch their ear to increase the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.

The modern form of control via voice command is not yet available in the Moment 110 RIC 312. Some hearing aids can also be operated with a quick tap of the finger, without the need to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.

In the App Store, we also find a suitable application from Widex. The app for the Moment 110 RIC 312 is not one of our highlights, but it has everything you need for your hearing systems. For our digital everyday life, a streaming option would be nice. The device in question fulfills this wish and includes a 2.4 GHz wireless module. This allows you to send phone calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.

We can relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions.

The Moment 110 RIC 312 is not rechargeable. It continues to draw its energy from disposable batteries of size 312, which need to be changed every few days.

With IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it can withstand longer submersion in water, and it is also protected against touch.

The possibility of remote adjustment is really great. This is very helpful whenever you just want to change a small aspect of the hearing aid settings but don’t want to drive to the audiologist. Instead, you make contact through the app, and the hearing professional sends back an adjusted data package in the same way.

If Widex had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individual health tracking could even be possible. However, this is not the case here. These points are currently lost for the Moment 110 RIC 312 in the evaluation. The hearing aid foregoes additional functions such as special assistance systems, a fall alert, or language translators. This is not a major issue, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
