The Widex Moment 220 CIC-M in review
Here we take a look at a mid-range hearing aid that is worn in the ear. It is called Moment 220 CIC-M and comes from the manufacturer Widex. It can be used by anyone with both mild and more severe hearing needs who desires a truly small hearing aid. Thanks to its concealed position in the back of the ear canal, it has very good sound quality.
Widex Moment is a family of hearing aids with many different hearing devices and various levels of technology. Here we have compiled an overview through the types thicket: Widex Moment - an overview.
Hearing comfort
What is most annoying for most hearing aid users: Exactly, background noise. That's why we first take a look at the comfort features included in the test device. The Moment 220 CIC-M allows for solid comfort programming by the audiologist. Normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is supposed to dampen constant noises like street noise or the hum of the air conditioning. In our test device from Widex, we are not exactly pampered, but we can live well with simple noise suppression.
After all, the Moment 220 CIC-M includes a so-called bang filter. But is that always sufficient? Wind noise does not play a role with this hearing aid, as the microphones are hidden deep in the ear canal, preventing the wind from reaching them. So, an electronic wind manager can be confidently omitted here. The 10 frequency channels are okay. However, it may be that the programming for individual hearing needs is not quite as precise, and one might have to make a few compromises in sound quality. When it comes to spatial hearing, the Moment 220 CIC-M shows its true strength: Due to its low position just before the eardrum, sound capture occurs like that of an ear without a hearing aid. The outer ear naturally directs the sound into the ear canal, and the existing head shadow effects are also utilized further. Such good 3D hearing could likely not be artificially generated.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from Widex.

Widex Moment 220 CIC-M:
Operation & connectivity
Almost every one of us owns a smartphone, so it's natural to wonder if it can be connected to the new hearing aid. Let's take a look at the connectivity and usability of the Moment 220 CIC-M. We couldn't find a button, which is unfortunate. Let's keep looking. We also didn't find a remote control. It's a shame because we actually find this discreet control option quite nice.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids to be louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Widex hasn't implemented this feature in this device yet. Don't worry, while this feature would be nice, it is not essential. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is tap control. This involves simply tapping the ear with your fingers, which triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Widex device.
A suitable app is also provided. In everyday life, the app should suffice, but it doesn't offer much more than a volume control and the ability to access different hearing programs. A wireless connection to a smartphone or laptop is not possible, as the necessary hardware components are missing. You should think carefully about whether you can manage without this feature, but why not give it a try.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 3,5

Simplicity & security
We are also interested in how quickly one can adapt to the Moment 220 CIC-M and how easy daily use is. The Moment 220 CIC-M automatically accesses the most important hearing settings, making daily usage easier. However, those who frequently encounter changing acoustic environments should consider having manual additional programs configured. The adaptation to the new hearing sensation is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It gradually adjusts the amplification in barely perceptible steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I need to do nothing more than wear my hearing aids regularly.
The Moment 220 CIC-M gets its power from small disposable batteries that need to be changed every few days. While this is not rocket science, it should be considered, especially for those with motor skill issues. A rechargeable battery would be much easier to handle.
The Moment 220 is almost dust and water-resistant and is certainly well protected against external influences with its IP 68 classification.
Rating Simplicity & security: 2,3
Extras
Finally, let's briefly look at whether there are any extras: Worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. Those plagued by annoying ear noises will definitely benefit from this. Pleasant, soft sounds are adjusted to gently interact with the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and is no longer bothersome.
What about remote maintenance? Such online services save the trip to the specialist store, as one can directly contact an acoustic professional via the app. Unfortunately, we have not found anything like that for the Moment 220 CIC-M at the moment. It's a shame; that would have been a great additional tool.
Some hearing aids can track specific health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Moment 220 CIC-M. The device from Widex focuses on essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like voice assistants or translation functions. While that would have been fun, it is not necessary for a good hearing experience.
Rating Extras: 3,3
Conclusion: Widex Moment 220 CIC-M
With a final grade of 3.05, this model stands its ground in the mid-range. It has a fairly decent level of comfort on board, sufficient for typical everyday moments and provides a satisfactory listening experience.
