This test report is about the Moment 440 CIC. It was developed by Widex and covers mild, moderate, and even severe hearing losses. This variant is worn in the ear. The Moment 440 CIC is a small, slim hearing aid from the premium category. We achieve clean sound transmission due to the well-suited wearing position in the ear canal.

Hearing comfort

First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the auditory experience becomes. In this hearing aid, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. Traditional noise suppression ensures that uniform, unimportant sounds are slightly reduced. The Moment 440 CIC includes a remarkable, well-functioning noise reduction. In this model, wind noise management is unnecessary because the hearing aid sits so far in the ear canal that wind noise does not become a problem at all.

Quickly occurring, rattling sounds are noticeably and sufficiently dampened, which we find pleasant. The Moment 440 CIC impresses us with its natural, spatial hearing. The outer ear retains its function, making the 3D feeling the same as if one were not wearing a hearing aid at all. 15 adjustable equalizer bands provide enough flexibility to generate a reliable, tailored listening experience.

Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but this device has not reached that level yet.

Operation & connectivity

Most functions of this Widex model are activated automatically. However, it is sometimes very useful to be able to expand the functionality a little further. In our test, we found out what options we have here. First, we are interested if there is a button on the device. Unfortunately, we are disappointed with the CIC as there is no immediate adjustment option. We do like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet adjustments to volume or sound.

At the moment, we do not find the modern method of voice command operation in the Moment 440 CIC. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple fingertip in this Widex model, as it would have required specific sensors in the casing.

Widex offers a suitable app for easier operation. However, it is not particularly well-equipped and hardly goes beyond the basic functions like loud/quiet and hearing programs. The hearing aid can also be used as a headset, requiring a small additional device. Once clipped to the collar, the entire multimedia world opens up. Smartphone, tablet, laptop – all Bluetooth-capable devices can be wirelessly connected to the hearing aid.

Now let's take a look at how usage is in everyday life. Is the handling simple? Do I get a safe device? With top-notch situation recognition, we are completely convinced by the Moment 440 CIC. The hearing aid seamlessly adapts to the acoustic environment and rarely requires our intervention. Hearing feels completely normal. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This greatly eases the adjustment to the new sound.

We regret that the Moment 440 CIC does not have a rechargeable battery but is powered by hearing aid batteries size 10. This is not a major issue, but one should remember to carry spare batteries. On the other hand, this hearing aid does not need to be charged daily; it operates for an extended time on a single battery.

We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This prevents dust from entering at all, and water only becomes dangerous after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Sometimes there are additional features in hearing aids that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Widex device: We noticed the tinnitus option here. Widex keeps up with the times and offers a forward-looking feature with the Remote Settings Service. Working individuals with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Additionally, hearing aid users who have a longer commute to the specialist store benefit from this special service.

Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Widex model lacks the sensors for this service. It would have also been nice to have a few lifestyle functions, but the 440 CIC currently does not offer those. Other hearing aids can stand out with speech translators or fall alerts, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
