The Moment 440 RIC 10 from Widex is a lightweight, hardly visible and barely noticeable hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. By utilizing a speaker that sits directly in the ear canal, very good sound transmission is possible. The Moment 440 RIC 10 is a hearing aid from the premium category and is suitable for mild to severe hearing loss.

Hearing comfort

First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the auditory experience becomes. This hearing aid allows for a solid comfort programming by the audiologist. The traditional noise suppression ensures that uniform, unimportant sounds are reduced a bit. In the Moment 440 RIC 10, the noise suppression can be adjusted to the customer's preference. This device features a really good wind management, making outdoor activities enjoyable.

Quickly occurring, clattering noises are noticeably and adequately dampened, which we find pleasant. The spatial hearing is reliably supported by multifunctional microphones and is definitely practical. 15 adjustable equalizer bands provide enough leeway to create a reliable, tailored listening experience.

Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from Widex.

Operation & connectivity

Almost each of us owns a smartphone, so it raises the question of whether it can be connected to the new hearing aid as well. Let's take a look at the connectivity and usability of the Moment 440 RIC 10. Unfortunately, this hearing aid lacks a direct control option. This is probably due to its small size. However, this doesn't have to be a disadvantage, as often the automatic functions are sufficient. We do like small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows you to discreetly make small adjustments to the volume or sound.

During the test, we did not find any voice control options. While this feature is not absolutely necessary, we would have appreciated it nonetheless. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, tap control could be possible, which would involve activating a certain function by tapping the ear with your fingers. However, this option is not available in the Moment 440 RIC 10.

An app for individual control is available for free. However, here we only find standard functions that are useful, but the app is not really enjoyable to use. Since the hearing aid has a wireless module, it can also be used as a headset or headphones. For this, a small additional device is needed, known as a streamer. This serves as the interface between the hearing aids and a Bluetooth-enabled audio device. Smartphone, laptop, navigation device - everything can be connected quickly and easily.

Of course, we are also interested in how quickly one can get along with the Moment 440 RIC 10 and how easy daily use is. Ideally, the hearing aid should operate largely independently. The performance of the Moment 440 RIC 10 is exceptionally good in this regard. There are plenty of typical listening situations stored that the device recognizes independently and always generates the appropriate settings. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny increments until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new auditory impressions.

The Moment 440 RIC 10 is not rechargeable. It continues to get its energy from size 10 disposable batteries that need to be changed every few days.

We also take a look at the robustness of the casing and discover the protection class IP 68 in the data sheet. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes a danger after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Working individuals with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer travel distance to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.

There are no sensors in this Moment 440 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. This includes, for example, counting daily steps. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not have this function onboard. It would have also been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but those are currently not available in the Moment 440 RIC 10. Other hearing aids may score with language translation or fall alerts, but here it remains within the usual functionality.
