The Widex Moment 110 RIC 10 in review

The Moment 110 RIC 10 from Widex is a miniature hearing aid about 1 cm long, worn behind the ear. By utilizing the placement of the small speaker in the ear canal, very good sound transmission is possible. The Moment 110 RIC 10 is a hearing aid from a solid mid-price range and is suitable for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing losses.

Hearing comfort

First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the hearing experience becomes. In this hearing aid, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. The traditional noise suppression ensures that uniform, unimportant sounds are slightly reduced. In the Moment 110 RIC 10, we have a rather simple form of noise suppression that should suffice for normal environments. Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not yet have wind noise suppression. Too bad.

Unfortunately, an impulse sound suppressor is not included in the Moment 110 RIC 10. The hearing aid automatically decides whether the microphones should focus on a speaker or not. You have a decent spatial impression, but accurately identifying directions or estimating distances through hearing is not so simple. As for the number of adjustable equalizer bands, we are dealing with 6 in a rather basic device. Of course, you can understand with it, but the sound is not quite what we would actually wish for.

Other hearing aids are already using artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but the Moment 110 RIC 10 has not yet adopted this strategy.

Rating Hearing comfort: 4,8

Operation & connectivity

“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there maybe an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let’s take a look at the operating and connection options. We couldn’t find a button, which is unfortunate. Let’s continue. We do like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet adjustments to the volume or sound.

Voice commands are a rather new way to operate hearing aids. However, this model does not feature this option yet. That’s not a big deal - the main thing is that you can hear well. If there are sensors in the hearing aid, a tap control could be conceivable, which would trigger a certain function by tapping the ear with your fingers. However, this option is currently not available in the 110 RIC 10.

An app for individual operation is available for free. However, we only find basic functions here, which are useful, but the app isn’t really fun to use. In the test, we also tried a small additional tool, a streamer. It connects the hearing aids wirelessly with various mobile devices. This wireless transmission function was one of the most meaningful elements in this hearing aid. We were able to make phone calls beautifully and heard the conversation in both ears. We could also listen to music while jogging or podcasts during lunch breaks in our desired volume without bothering other people.

Simplicity & security

Now let's take a look at how the usage in everyday life is. Is the handling easy? Do I get a secure device? An automatic situation detection is currently only rudimentarily integrated in the 110 RIC 10. We often have to resort to the manual options and adapt our hearing aid to the environments ourselves. The adaptation to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I don't have to do anything other than regularly wear my hearing aids.

Unfortunately, the 110 RIC 10 is not equipped with a battery, so one needs to regularly use size 10 batteries for operation.

Let's also take a look at the robustness of the housing and discover in the datasheet the protection class IP 68. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes dangerous after extended submersion. It also includes protection against contact.

Extras

Finally, we want to know whether the hearing aid perhaps offers any specials: Here, we noticed the tinnitus option. Those who wish can have a special tinnitus program set up. This applies a gentle noise to the ears if needed, to distract a little from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be customized according to personal hearing preferences.

We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If one does not have the opportunity to go to the hearing specialist, one contacts them instead via the app, briefly describes their hearing issue, and then receives a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they load it into their hearing aids.

Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Moment 110 RIC 10. It would have also been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but these are not available in the Moment 110 RIC 10. Other hearing aids can score with language translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.

Conclusion: Widex Moment 110 RIC 10

This test device ranks in the lower positions overall and lacks some features. We assign a grade of 3.61. This is acceptable for less demanding listeners, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
