Once again, we focus on a hearing aid from the company Audio Service. This time it is a traditionally behind-the-ear hearing aid called BSP7 3 HdO. It is a normally sized hearing aid, and in terms of price, it falls within the entry-level category. It can be used for moderate to severe hearing loss. Let's take a look at what the inside has to offer:
Hearing comfort
At least as important as speech comprehension is listening comfort. After all, our environment should sound as realistic and pleasant as possible. So let's take a look at noise management: In this model offered by Audio Service, we find only the absolute essentials regarding listening comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to soften tiring background noises. In the BSP7 3 HdO, we have to settle for a minimum level of noise suppression. Unfortunately, this hearing aid does not yet have wind noise suppression. What a pity.
A so-called bang filter would have been nice, as it would have made the clattering when emptying the dishwasher a bit more bearable. But we have to do without that in the BSP7 3 HdO. Unfortunately, there is nothing to say about spatial hearing here; the microphones have no additional function that could enhance directional hearing. The BSP7 3 HdO has only 6 frequency bands, barely meeting the minimum requirements. One shouldn't have too high expectations regarding sound quality.
Audio Service is not yet using artificial intelligence in this version.

Operation & connectivity
Since you probably don't have your audiologist by your side all the time, it's quite helpful to be able to make changes to the hearing aid yourself. There are different operating options available, and we'll look at which ones the BSP7 3 HdO has. A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It can be easily felt, and you can adjust the volume up or down in several steps. Additional programs for special hearing situations can also be activated with it. If someone wants to do without the button, they can simply have it deactivated. Those who prefer not to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for comfortable and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
In the test, we did not find any voice control options. This function is not necessarily required, but we would have liked it nonetheless. In addition to buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control feature. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch. However, we don't have that at Audio Service; it would have required very specific sensors.
A very typical operating option nowadays is apps for smartphones. The BSP7 3 HdO also has an app. With it, you can intuitively adjust the volume or switch programs. You can't really go wrong with it, as there isn't much more functionality available. Unfortunately, we have to do without a streaming function here and continue to hold the smartphone to the ear in the usual way.

We continue our test and try out how easy this hearing aid is to use. After all, it should simplify the everyday life of hearing aid users, not complicate it further. When it comes to simplicity, it’s initially about easy, effortless hearing. This works pretty well with the existing scenario automation in the BSP7 3 BTE. However, when the acoustic environment is a bit more varied, the automation reaches its limits, and we prefer to rely on manual adjustment options. The integrated acclimatization manager can be a great help when entering the world of hearing aids. Its job is to gradually raise the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This allows you to relax and gradually get used to the new hearing impressions. The BSP7 3 BTE is not rechargeable; it operates with hearing aid batteries. Unlike rechargeable batteries, it does not need to be charged daily, but the size 13 battery will need to be replaced after a few days.
The BSP7 3 is almost dust and waterproof and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

Now we have looked at the most important features of the hearing aid. But before we come to the end, we want to know if there are any additional functions: a tinnitus program would be such an additional bonus. Many people suffering from their ear noise could benefit from it. Unfortunately, the BSP7 3 Hdo does not have a tinnitus option and loses a few points in the test.
A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce resource. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. Those who need new programming for their hearing aids can easily contact the acoustician through the app and describe their hearing needs. Through a cloud service, the professional can then send a customized setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be immediately tested. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track a few personal health data, for example. However, the BSP7 3 Hdo does not offer this. The functionality of the BSP7 3 Hdo is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional features like fall alerts or Siri integrations do add a decent value, but are not relevant for good sound balance.
