We tested a discreet hearing aid from the Business Class this time. It is the Beltone Serene 6 Rechargeable ITE. It is worn in the ear and is intended for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing needs. The device owes its quite comfortable position at the front of the ear canal to its design, which is why it also delivers a nice, clear sound.
Hearing comfort
In the first chapter, we assess the quality of sound management. We refer to this as hearing comfort, as these features determine how pleasant the hearing aid user finds the sound of their hearing devices. However, sounds can be of various natures and require very different tools for suppression. The Serene 6 Rechargeable ITE allows for solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional. First, we consider noise suppression. Its purpose is to tame everyday noises such as the sound of ventilation or refrigerators. In this Beltone model, the noise suppression is solid. There are hearing aids that have a significantly more effective attenuation, but this one should be sufficient for normal needs.
Our test has discovered impulse noise damping. It slightly reduces popping, sudden sounds. Those who enjoy being outdoors will appreciate the wind noise suppression here. It may not dampen as much, but it is definitely useful. The Serene 6 Rechargeable ITE has 12 adjustable frequency bands, placing it in the mid-range. A good audiologist can certainly extract a reasonable sound. Adaptive microphone systems facilitate spatial hearing. However, one needs to acclimate to the new sound; especially at the beginning, it may not always be clear where a sound is coming from.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet being utilized here.

Operation & connectivity
Sometimes it's not so bad to be able to adjust the volume of the hearing aid a little, for example, when the neighbor is loudly mowing the lawn or someone speaks very softly with you. Many models therefore have special operating functions. You can use them, but you don’t have to. We looked at this with the Serene 6 Battery ITE: The simplest operating option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it too. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for stepwise adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional everyday life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you prefer to leave everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. Those who don't like to touch their ear to turn it up will be pleased with the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
The modern form of operation via voice command is not yet available in the Serene 6 Battery ITE. A control of the hearing aids with a simple fingertip is not present in this Beltone model, as certain sensors in the housing would have been needed for that.
In our opinion, an app is better than a remote control, as everyone probably has a smartphone in their pocket. The app for the Serene 6 Battery ITE is really good; it has a lot of smart functions that make hearing in difficult situations significantly easier. It is quite complex, but you can quickly find your way around. You can practice in demo mode. There are also a few surprising additional tools - enjoy discovering! You no longer need headphones here, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds from the smartphone directly to your ears – as long as the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Here's what we found: The Serene 6 rechargeable ITE features a solid everyday automatic that is likely sufficient for a quieter life. However, for more complex listening environments, we recommend the additional manual programs. Some people struggle with adaptation, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to cope with the new volume. There is an adaptation manager that gradually leads us to the desired target amplification. The duration can range from a few weeks to several months, and it is individually adjustable. The individual steps are so small that one hardly notices that there has been a volume increase.
The Serene 6 rechargeable ITE is rechargeable and no longer requires hearing aid batteries. This is environmentally friendly, as there are no old batteries to dispose of. At the same time, it is also extremely convenient, as no spare batteries need to be carried. The hearing aids are simply placed in the charging station at night and are ready for use the next morning.
We also take a look at the robustness of the housing and find in the data sheet that it has an IP 68 protection class. This means that dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes dangerous after prolonged submersion. Protection against contact is also included.

At the end of our test report, there is a little space for the extra features: Here we noticed the tinnitus option. Those who wish can set up a special tinnitus program. This gently creates a soothing noise in the ears to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be tailored to personal hearing preferences.
Beltone keeps up with the times and offers a future-oriented feature with the remote adjustment service. Busy professionals with little time can contact their acoustician online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer journey to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Serene 6 Battery ITE. The device from Beltone focuses on essential hearing functions and does not offer extras like speech assistants or translation features. While that would have been fun, it's not necessary for a good listening experience.
