Here we have a traditionally large hearing aid from an affordable price range that is worn in the ear. The advantageous and comfortable placement directly in the ear lays the foundation for good hearing success, as the sound has a very short distance to travel to the eardrum. As a result, all sounds reach where we want them to be.
The Geno 1 ITE provides sufficient amplification for mild to severe hearing loss.
Hearing comfort
The comfort features determine how pleasant listening is perceived in everyday life. This hearing aid offers only the bare essentials when it comes to hearing comfort. A classic noise suppression is intended to reduce annoying background noises to a tolerable level. In the Geno 1 ITE, it works only very limitedly. When looking at the price, this could be fitting. The device from Oticon can also detect wind noise, but only minimal noise reduction follows. This is sufficient for normal everyday paths, but true outdoor enthusiasts will not be satisfied with it.
Unfortunately, we did not find a noise filter that reacts to short, loud sounds. Natural spatial hearing is lacking in this device, which indeed poses some difficulties in daily life. We can no longer reliably determine directions. Those with limited vision should opt for a different hearing aid. Regarding the number of adjustable equalizer bands, we are dealing with 6 in a fairly basic device here. Of course, it is possible to understand, but the sound is not as we would actually wish.
Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from Oticon.

Operation & connectivity
The majority of the functions of this Oticon model are activated automatically. However, it can be very useful to have the option to expand the functionality a bit. In our testing, we discovered what options we have here. For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume, there is a button on the device. You can also select additional programs for special hearing situations through it. We do like the small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet adjustments to the volume or sound.
There has been a trend for some time now to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Oticon is not there yet with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it's not essential. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger without having to press a button. However, this feature has not yet been implemented here.
In the app stores, there is a free app that can be used if desired. We tried it out and were relatively quick to go through it. The functionality is rather modest. Nevertheless, it is a convenient and unobtrusive way to temporarily adjust the Geno 1 ITE. In our testing, we also tried a small additional tool, a streamer. It wirelessly connects the hearing aids to all sorts of mobile devices. This wireless transmission function was one of the most useful features of this hearing aid. We were able to have phone calls wonderfully and heard the conversation in both ears. We could also enjoy music while jogging or listen to a podcast during lunch break at our desired volume without disturbing others.

Simplicity & security
How does one manage with the hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will assess. Because only when such a device works simply and uncomplicated can one become friends with it. Simplicity in a hearing aid means for us primarily that it flexibly adapts to changing hearing scenarios. The Geno 1 ITE did not completely convince us in this regard. Although there is a situational recognition that differentiates between quieter and louder environments, which works. However, those who are active in their lives might occasionally run into limitations. But that's not so bad; one can revert to manual adjustment options. The adjustment to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I don't have to do anything else but wear my hearing aids regularly.
Zinc-air batteries power the Geno 1 ITE. Changing the battery could be quite cumbersome for people with limited dexterity or vision. If you have concerns about that, it’s better to look for a rechargeable model.
The data sheet certifies the Oticon device with an IP protection class 68 certification. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not penetrate the housing unless submerged deeper than 1.5 m. Still, be cautious. For example, shampoo alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, however, you can behave without worries.

Everyone appreciates a few extra features, so let's see if we can find some here: Manufacturers often implement a tinnitus program in their hearing aids to alleviate the annoying ringing a bit. However, Oticon has chosen not to include this in this model. That's unfortunate, as it would provide real added value for many people.
Unfortunately, there is no option for remote adjustment. So, anyone who needs optimization and wants to change their hearing aid settings must visit an acoustic professional.
A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track personal health data, for example. However, the Geno 1 ITE does not offer this. The device from Oticon focuses on essential hearing functions and does not provide extras like voice assistants or translation features. While that would have been fun, it is not essential for a good listening experience.
