The Hansaton flow+ 13 Dir FS in review
Hansaton offers the flow+ 13 Dir FS, a normally sized hearing aid that is worn in the ear. It is a hearing aid from the basic price segment and is suitable for both mild and more significant hearing needs. The affordable and comfortable placement directly in the ear ensures that sound reaches the eardrum without loss.
Hearing comfort
First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. In this hearing aid, we found only limited options to influence comfort. The traditional noise suppression reduces uniform, unimportant sounds a bit. We are satisfied with the effectiveness of noise suppression in the flow+ 13 Dir FS. It can not only be turned on or off, but also adjusted in stages. However, users of the flow+ 13 Dir FS need to cope with the wind sweeping through the microphones. There is no wind noise reduction here.
The flow+ 13 Dir FS also features impulse noise suppression. It reliably detects all short, rattling noises, but the attenuation is rather low. The device recognizes whether the microphones should transmit everything or be oriented forward. This can help in conversation situations, but it does not replace true spatial hearing. With 12 frequency bands, it is possible to achieve a fairly good sound. A passionate musician may not be entirely satisfied with this, but for normal hearing and sound needs, this number is completely sufficient.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but this strategy is not yet incorporated into the flow+ 13 Dir FS.

Hansaton flow+ 13 Dir FS:
Operation & connectivity
How can one fully exploit the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We found out what access options are available with the flow+ 13 Dir FS. For those who want to quickly and easily adjust the volume, there is a button on the device. Additional programs for special hearing situations can also be selected through it. We would have liked a remote control, but Hansaton does not offer one for this model. So no point here.
We do not yet find the modern method of operation via voice command in the flow+ 13 Dir FS. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. For this, you simply tap your fingers on your ear, which then triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Hansaton device.
If you are looking for an app, unfortunately, you won't find it here. The flow+ 13 Dir FS has to make do without smart control functions. This point is lost. The smartphone cannot be connected to the hearing aid as it unfortunately lacks the necessary equipment with a wireless antenna.
Rating Operation & connectivity: 3,5

Simplicity & security
Another point in our checklist is handling. Does everything work easily and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? The first points in the chapter on simplicity are a downside for the flow+ 13 Dir FS, as it does not have automatic situation adjustment. We have to manually adjust it until we manage to cope with the respective hearing situation. The device supports the adjustment to the new hearing experience with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I only need to do one thing: wear my hearing aids regularly.
The flow+ 13 Dir FS is not rechargeable. It operates with size 13 hearing aid batteries. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: The daily charging of batteries is unnecessary; the hearing aid can run continuously for several days on a single battery.
The flow+ is almost dust and water-resistant and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.
Rating Simplicity & security: 3,0
Extras
Before we reach the end, let's take a look at the extras: We noticed the tinnitus option here. If someone wishes, they can have a special tinnitus program set up. This can provide a gentle noise to the ears to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be tailored to personal hearing preferences.
A nice feature would be a remote maintenance service, so one could receive assistance from a hearing professional even when unable to visit the store. Unfortunately, this is not available here, so there are no extra points for it.
Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Hansaton model lacks the sensors for that service. Other hearing aids already offer some advanced options like fall alarms or reminder functions. We do not find that here, and it's not particularly dramatic, as the basic hearing functions are still the most important.

Conclusion: Hansaton flow+ 13 Dir FS
This test device ranks in the lower positions overall and lacks some features. We award a score of 3.58. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable; however, for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
