Here we have a lightweight, barely visible and hardly noticeable hearing aid from the Advanced Class that is worn in the ear. Thanks to its almost invisible, very deep position just before the eardrum, the foundation for good hearing success is laid, as the sound has only a very short distance to travel to the eardrum. This way, all sounds reach us exactly where we want them.
The Own SI 3 IIC provides sufficient amplification for mild, moderate, and also strong hearing needs.
Hearing comfort
Hearing aids are not only meant to bring speech to the ear, but also to sound pleasant. So let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noises does the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for a lively everyday life? Here with this test device, the manufacturer provides the customer with comprehensive noise management. As in every hearing aid, there is also typical noise suppression here. It is supposed to reduce consistent, noisy background noises to the point where they no longer dominate. With the Own SI 3 IIC, we are not dealing with the most powerful variant, but in everyday life, the noise suppression should suffice.
A wind manager is not necessary for this model. It is hidden in the ear canal and is naturally protected from wind by the outer ear. Impulsive noises are identified and reliably dampened. This is noticeable, for example, with typical kitchen noises or when crumpling paper or typing on a keyboard. Those who want a hearing aid with plenty of leeway will find the Own SI 3 IIC satisfying. It has 18 frequency bands and thus great adjustment options. The sound can be modified according to individual preferences, even after several years. Spatial hearing with the Own SI 3 IIC occurs in a very natural way. Due to its special placement deep in the ear canal, the function of the outer ear is preserved, and there are no losses in directional hearing.
Even in hearing aids, the use of artificial intelligence has made its way in, for example, here in the Own SI 3 IIC. This provides a lot more data to identify speech and noise. In our experience, the sound of hearing aids with AI is perceived as particularly precise and realistic.

Operation & connectivity
Basically, the hearing aids work fully automatically, and that is also the mode that most people prefer. However, sometimes it is quite useful to be able to switch to another hearing program or simply adjust the volume in a difficult situation. Therefore, let’s take a brief look at the operating options of the Own SI 3 IIC. First, we are interested in whether there is a button on the device. Unfortunately, we are disappointed with the IIC; there is no immediate adjustment possibility. We did not find a remote control. Too bad, because we actually think this discreet control option would be quite good.
The modern form of operation via voice command is not yet found in the Own SI 3 IIC. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With that, you could change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But that is not available here in the Own SI 3 IIC yet.
An additional app for individual control would be nice, but it is currently not offered for this hearing aid. Unfortunately, we have to forego a streaming function here and continue to hold the smartphone normally to the ear.

Another point in our checklist is handling. Is everything easy and reliable? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? When it comes to simplicity, it is primarily about easy, effortless hearing. This works quite well with the existing automatic situational control in the Own SI 3 IIC. However, when the acoustic environment is a bit more diverse, the automatic system reaches its limits, and we prefer to rely on manual control options. We give a big plus for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly eases the adaptation to the new sound.
The Own SI 3 IIC uses battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long runtime with one battery. Unlike rechargeable solutions, you rarely have to worry about the power supply. Disadvantage: Waste is generated in the form of used batteries. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery size 10.
The data sheet certifies the Oticon device with an IP protection class 68 certification. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water cannot penetrate the housing unless submerged deeper than 1.5 meters. However, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. In everyday life, however, you can behave completely carefree.

Manchmal gibt es in den Hörgeräten noch Zusatzfunktionen, die ganz nützlich sein können. Mal sehen, wie das bei diesem Oticon-Gerät ist: Ein Tinnitusprogramm wäre so ein zusätzliches Goodie. Davon könnten viele Menschen profitieren, die unter ihren Ohrgeräuschen leiden. Aber leider hat das Own SI 3 IIC keine Tinnitusoption und vergibt ein paar Punkte im Test.
In mobilen Zeiten wie diesen wäre ein Fernwartungsdienst über eine App sehr hilfreich. Darüber könnte man sich bequem von zuhause aus eine neue Hörgeräteprogrammierung erstellen lassen. Leider gibt es diesen Service nicht für das Own SI 3 IIC. Bei Änderungswünschen muss man also weiterhin das Fachgeschäft aufsuchen.
Hätte Oticon Bewegungssensoren in dieses Hörgerät integriert, dann könnte sogar ein individuelles Gesundheits-Tracking erfolgen. Das ist hier aber nicht der Fall. Diese Punkte gehen dem Own SI 3 IIC in der Wertung verloren. Der Funktionsumfang im Own SI 3 IIC beschränkt sich auf das normale Hören, was auch völlig in Ordnung ist. Zusatzfunktionen wie Sturzalarm oder Siri-Verknüpfungen haben schon einen ordentlichen Mehrwert, sind aber für einen guten Hörausgleich nicht relevant.
