We are once again looking at a traditional hearing aid for moderate to severe hearing loss: This model is called Naida Marvel 70 SP and comes from the company Phonak. It is worn behind the ear, and it is a discreet hearing aid. The Naida Marvel 70 SP is a model from the upper price segment. Let's see if the pricing classification is justified.
Hearing comfort
What is most bothersome for hearing aid users: Exactly, the background noise. Therefore, let's first take a look at the comfort features the test device contains. The Naida Marvel 70 SP allows for solid comfort programming by the hearing care professional. A normal noise reduction is definitely present. It is meant to dampen constant noises like street noise or the hum of the air conditioning. In our test device from Phonak, the noise reduction works rather average, but it is somewhat adjustable.
Short, loud sounds are quickly recognized and effectively reduced in the Naida Marvel 70 SP, thanks to an adjustable impulse sound suppressor. The Naida Marvel 70 SP impresses us with its wind noise reduction, providing good performance in that regard. A high number of frequency bands assists in separating speech from noise. With its 16 bands, the Naida Marvel 70 SP certainly ranks in the upper echelon. The spatial hearing has convinced us in everyday life. It may not be true 3D hearing, but you quickly forget that when wearing the hearing aids.
Artificial intelligence-based strategies have not yet been implemented in this hearing device from Phonak.
The operating system of this hearing aid is AutoSense 3.0. The new version of this software runs in the Phonak hearing aids of the Paradise family.

Operation & connectivity
The operation options for hearing aids today are as simple or as complex as one would like. The basic functions run fully automatically, of course. We wanted to know how users can further access the Naida Marvel 70 SP. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Naida Marvel 70 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be deactivated if desired. Those who are not keen on touching their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for comfortable and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.
We are always delighted when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. But that is currently not available on the Naida Marvel 70 SP. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a simple tap of the finger, without the need to press a button. However, this feature has not been implemented here yet.
To improve usability, the manufacturer also provides a smartphone app. The Phonak app for Naida Marvel 70 SP is impressive: not only can you adjust the volume, but you can also really influence the sound and various noise parameters. A streaming option would not be bad for our digital everyday life. The device in question meets our wish and includes a 2.4 GHz radio module. This allows you to send calls and sounds directly from your smartphone to the hearing aids.

Now let's take a look at how usage is arranged in everyday life. Is the handling simple? Do I get a secure device? The Naida Marvel 70 SP features an extensive set of stored hearing situations. If a typical pattern is recognized, the hearing aid automatically activates the correct setting. The device supports the adjustment to the new hearing experience with a fully automatic acclimatization manager, which adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I don't have to do anything other than regularly wear my hearing aids.
The Naida Marvel 70 SP is not rechargeable. It continues to get its power from disposable size 13 batteries, which need to be changed every few days.
With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it withstands prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

Finally, let's take a brief look at whether there are any additional features: Phonak has integrated a sound generator that plays soothing sounds for those suffering from tinnitus. This can help distract from the tinnitus and provide a bit more relaxation.
A very good added benefit is the remote maintenance service. Through the app, you can contact your audiologist and describe your hearing issue. They can then adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a great service.
There are no sensors in this Naida Marvel 70 variant, so the popular health tracking feature cannot be offered. For example, daily steps could be counted. As mentioned, this hearing aid does not include this function. This Phonak hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need these for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
