The Phonak Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC in review

Die Einführung einer neuen Phonak-Technologie führt dazu, dass diese Geräte nicht mehr den aktuellen Standards entsprechen und eine schlechtere Bewertung erhalten.

This test report is about the Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC. It was developed by Phonak and covers light, moderate, and severe hearing needs. This version is worn in the ear. The Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC is a miniature hearing aid, approximately 1 cm long, from the high-end category. The clean sound transmission is achieved through its position, which is neither visible nor noticeable, deep in the ear canal.

Hearing comfort

In the first chapter, we assess the quality of noise management. We call it listening comfort, as these features determine how pleasant the hearing aid user perceives the sound of their hearing aids. However, sounds can be of various natures and require different tools for suppression. With the Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC, we were thrilled by the excellent noise management. First, we look at noise suppression. It is designed to tame everyday sounds like ventilation or refrigerator noise. In this Phonak model, the manufacturer has not been stingy and provides us with a multi-level, effective noise reduction.

The suppression of short, loud sound events convinced us here; it is quite powerful. This device features really good wind management, making outdoor stays enjoyable. We found a proud 20 equalizer bands in the Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC. In each band, the hearing aid activates its noise management, filters out disruptive elements, and retains important speech components. Acoustic changes can occur precisely and accurately. We are very satisfied with this. Especially with sharp or steeply falling hearing curves, such a hearing aid can be very useful. Tools for spatial hearing are lacking here; nonetheless, we award full marks. This is because spatial hearing is preserved since the hearing aid sits directly in the ear canal. And that's exactly where the sound reaches even non-hearing aid users. This is a real advantage of this specific, small design.

Phonak has not yet integrated artificial intelligence in this version.

Rating Hearing comfort: 1,4

Operation & connectivity

Almost everyone of us owns a smartphone, which raises the question of whether it can be connected to the new hearing aid. Let's take a look at the connectivity and usability of the Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC. There are no controls directly on the hearing aid. For space reasons, a button is sometimes omitted. Those who prefer not to touch their ear to adjust the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.

We always enjoy being surprised by a hearing aid with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control in this context. However, that is currently not available in the Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a simple tap of the finger, without needing to press a button. This feature, however, has not yet been implemented here.

We missed an app for the Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC during testing. If controlling via smartphone is important to you, you should look for another model. Unfortunately, wireless connectivity options are completely absent in this version. This is somewhat outdated and is likely due to the small size of the hearing aid.

Simplicity & security

We continue the test with a brief assessment of how easy everyday use will be. Is it complicated? Do I need to be particularly careful? Or do I not need to pay attention to anything at all? When it comes to simplicity, it is primarily about easy, effortless listening. This works quite well with the existing situational automation in the Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC. However, when the acoustic environment becomes a bit more varied, the automation reaches its limits, and we prefer to rely on manual adjustment options. The integrated acclimatization manager can be of great help in getting started with the world of hearing aids. Its task is to gradually increase the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until the target volume is reached. This way, you can relax and slowly get used to the new hearing experiences. More information on acclimatization and other hearing aids with this feature can be found here: Acclimatization to Hearing Aids.

Unfortunately, the Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC is not equipped with a rechargeable battery, meaning one needs to regularly replace size 10 batteries for operation.

We had an effortless everyday life in our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took the hearing aids out with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only applies to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bathwater or saltwater.

Rating Simplicity & security: 2,3

Extras

We are almost at the end, but perhaps this device still has a few gifts in the form of extra features? Let's take a look: We were really impressed by the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently troubled by a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC is essentially nothing more than a sound generator. Its purpose is to produce broadband noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all hearing areas. The tinnitus fades into the background and is no longer perceived as bothersome.

Unfortunately, there is no option for remote adjustment. So anyone who needs adjustments and wants to change their hearing aid settings will have to make a visit to the audiologist.

Many hearing aids still come with a few health functions today. However, since the Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any particular features here. The functionality of the Virto Paradise 70 Titanium IIC is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional functions like fall alerts or Siri connections provide a substantial added value but are not relevant for good hearing balance.
