The Signia Insio 1 IX IIC in review

This test report is about the Insio 1 IX IIC. It was developed by Signia and covers mild to moderate hearing losses. This variant is worn in the ear. The Insio 1 IX IIC is approximately 1 cm long and is a miniature hearing aid at a moderate price. The clean sound transmission is achieved through the barely noticeable wearing position in the ear canal.

Hearing comfort

First, we evaluate the hearing comfort features. What types of noises does the hearing aid recognize? How does it handle them? Is the hearing aid suitable for a varied daily life? Here with this test device, we found very few options for influencing comfort. As with all hearing aids, we also find typical noise cancellation here. It aims to reduce monotonous, noisy background sounds to the point where they are not so prominent. The Insio 1 IX IIC has a very basic noise suppression system, but it only provides a very slight attenuation.

This hearing aid can detect wind noise, but the reduction is hardly noticeable. Short, loud sounds can also be recognized by this device. However, the attenuation is very minimal. Anyone who frequently encounters such impulsive noises in their environment should choose a different model. The 8 frequency channels are okay. However, it might be that the programming to the individual hearing needs is not entirely precise, and one may have to make some compromises in sound quality. Spatial hearing with the Insio 1 IX IIC happens in a very natural way. Due to its special placement deep in the ear canal, the function of the outer ear is preserved, and there are no losses in directional hearing.

The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet employed here.

Rating Hearing comfort: 4,2

Operation & connectivity

Most functions are activated automatically by this Signia model. However, it can be very useful to expand the range of functions a little further. In the test, we found out what options we have here. There is no control element directly on the hearing aid. For space reasons, a button is sometimes omitted. The small remote control, which is available as an option, is very practical. For us, it is one of the most convenient ways to adjust the volume of the hearing aid or switch to another hearing program. No one notices, and there is no need to reach for the ear.

For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids via voice commands. The idea is really good, but Signia is not there yet with this device. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it is not essential. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is a tap control. You simply tap your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Signia device.

The Insio 1 IX IIC can be operated with an app. In our view, it is somewhat rudimentary, but you definitely get the advantage of convenient handling. Unfortunately, wireless connectivity options are completely missing in this version. This is no longer quite up to date, but it is likely due to the small size of the hearing aid.

Rating Operation & connectivity: 3,3

Simplicity & security

An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes, for example, automated functions, as well as robustness and user-friendliness. Unfortunately, when it comes to ease of use, the Insio 1 IX IIC does not perform particularly well. The situational automatic function is quite stripped down, providing little support when it gets loud around us. This can be compensated for by using the manual adjustment options, but that hardly scores points in terms of simplicity. We give a big plus for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is achieved. This significantly facilitates the adjustment to the new sound.

The Insio 1 IX IIC gets its power from small disposable batteries, which need to be changed every few days. While this is not rocket science, it should be considered, especially for those with motor skills issues. A rechargeable battery would be much easier to handle.

With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand a variety of adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it withstands prolonged immersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

Rating Simplicity & security: 2,8

Extras

Now we have looked at the most important features of the hearing aid. But before we come to the end, we want to know if there are any additional features: A tinnitus program would be such an additional bonus. Many people suffering from ear noise could benefit from this. Unfortunately, the Insio 1 IX IIC does not have a tinnitus option and loses a few points in the test.

A nice feature would be a remote maintenance service, allowing one to receive help from the hearing professional even when one cannot get to the store. Unfortunately, this is not available here, so there are no extra points.

Many hearing aids still come with a few health functions today. However, since the Insio 1 IX IIC does not have any special sensors for this, we cannot present any notable features here. The hearing aid also forgoes additional functions like special assistance systems, a fall alert, or language translators. This is not a major issue, as it does not affect the important hearing functions.
