Here we have a miniature hearing aid about 1 cm long at a rather high price, which is worn in the ear. Right from the start, we address the topic of hearing comfort. By this, we mean all the features that ensure a thoroughly pleasant, rich, and disturbance-free sound. The Insio 5 IX IIC provides the customer with comprehensive noise management.
The classic noise suppression is, of course, also present here. Its purpose is to detect and slightly mitigate simple sounds from the environment. In this Signia model, the noise suppression works quite well. There are other models that significantly reduce background noise more effectively, but this one should suffice for normal hearing daily life. An impulse sound suppressor for short, sharp noises is reasonably integrated here and is perfectly adequate for everyday use.
The Insio 5 IX IIC impresses us with its wind suppression and offers good performance in this regard. Instruments for spatial hearing are missing here, yet we still award full points. Spatial hearing is maintained because the hearing aid sits directly in the ear canal. And that's exactly where sound enters even for non-hearing aid users. This is a real advantage of this specific, small design. The Insio 5 IX IIC is one of the good hearing aids, at least in terms of the number of frequency bands. With 18 bands, it is well-equipped for precise adaptation to personal sound preferences. Sometimes we experience hearing aids that successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but this device has not yet reached that level.

Operation & connectivity
Everyone has their own unique hearing needs. It is advantageous to be able to customize hearing aids beyond the automatic functions. In our test, we discovered the following access options: We searched in vain for a button as a quick access option. It has probably fallen victim to the small design. This is manageable, as the hearing aid makes most adjustments automatically anyway. A remote control is available for the Insio 5 IX IIC. It is quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume option as well as various hearing programs.
For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Signia is not quite there with this device yet. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it is dispensable. In addition to buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and then the device switches modes. However, we do not have this at Signia, as it would have required specific sensors.
If you wish, you can use the free smartphone app. This app probably only covers the essentials. Loud, quiet, and programs – there isn't much more. The smartphone cannot be connected to the hearing aid, as the corresponding equipment with a wireless antenna unfortunately is missing.

Moving on in the test: How is the user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? In the Insio 5 IX IIC, we experienced an effective situational automation that supports our hearing well. This already ensures that we do not have to constantly adjust something on the hearing aid. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually raises the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly facilitates getting used to the new sound.
The Insio 5 IX IIC is not rechargeable. It operates with hearing aid batteries size 10. Disadvantage: The batteries are disposed of after use. Advantage: The daily recharging of batteries is eliminated; the hearing aid runs continuously for several days on one battery.
The Insio 5 IX is nearly dust and water-resistant, and with its IP 68 classification, it is certainly well protected against external influences.

As apps and hearing aids themselves increasingly feature more storage capacity, it is worth taking a look at possible extra functions. Here’s how things are: We noticed the tinnitus option. If desired, one can set up a special tinnitus program. This gently overlays a soft noise to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be tailored to personal hearing preferences.
What about remote maintenance? Such online services save a trip to the specialist store, as you can directly contact an acoustics professional through the app. Unfortunately, we didn’t find such a feature for the Insio 5 IX IIC. Too bad, it would have been a great additional tool.
Many hearing aids today still include a few health functions. However, since the Insio 5 IX IIC does not have any specific sensors for this, we cannot present any particular features here. The functionality of the Insio 5 IX IIC is limited to normal hearing, which is perfectly fine. Additional functions like fall alarms or Siri connections have their own value, but they are not relevant for good hearing balance.
