This test report is about the Evolv AI 2000 IIC. It was developed by Starkey and covers mild, moderate, and even severe hearing needs. This variant is worn in the ear. The Evolv AI 2000 IIC is a miniature hearing aid approximately 1 cm long and of a premium quality level. We achieve clean sound transmission through its perfect, very deep placement in the ear canal.

Hearing comfort

First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience becomes. This hearing aid provides the customer with comprehensive sound management. The traditional noise suppression reduces uniform, unimportant sounds slightly. In the Evolv AI 2000 IIC, background noise is reliably detected but only moderately suppressed. For windy situations outdoors, Starkey has implemented wind noise reduction, which is quite useful and is simply part of a modern comfort feature set.

A filter for rattling, popping noises is not available here – unfortunately, that's a point against it. Hearing aids like the Evolv AI 2000 IIC maintain the natural spatial perception we've experienced since childhood. The function of the outer ear, head size, head shadow effects - all these parameters create a genuine, authentic 3D hearing experience. With 20 channels, the frequency band count in the Evolv AI 2000 IIC is very high, allowing the hearing aid to be perfectly tailored to each individual's hearing and providing good long-term tuning options.

Interestingly, artificial intelligence also plays a role in signal processing here. Sounds are not only analyzed based on typical frequency patterns. Particularly intense, noisy situations are perceived as more realistic and pleasant.

“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there perhaps an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let's take a look at the control and connectivity options. First, we are interested in whether there is a button on the device. Unfortunately, we are disappointed with the IIC; there is no immediate adjustment option. Is the Evolv AI 2000 remotely controllable? Unfortunately not; no suitable device is available.

Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Starkey unfortunately cannot yet. It would be practical for those whose fingers are not as nimble anymore or for those who simply like smart gadgets. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of a finger without needing to press an extra button. However, this feature is not yet implemented here.

The Evolv AI 2000 IIC can be operated with an app. In our view, it is somewhat rudimentary, but you will definitely benefit from the convenience of handling it. Unfortunately, we have to forgo a streaming function here and continue to hold the smartphone to the ear in the usual way.

Of course, we are also interested in how quickly one adapts to the Evolv AI 2000 IIC and how easy daily use is. The automatic situational recognition is highly valued in our test. The better it functions, the easier our hearing can navigate through the day. The Evolv AI 2000 IIC operates confidently here and adjusts to many situations. We give a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This significantly eases the adjustment to the new sound.

Evolv AI 2000 IIC relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long runtime with a single battery. Unlike battery solutions, you hardly ever have to worry about the power supply. Disadvantage: Waste is generated in the form of used batteries. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery size 10.

For a secure everyday feeling, a solid dust and moisture protection is also important. However, there is no IP certification for this. Presumably, this model is not really well equipped against penetrating dust or moisture. This is not up to date and results in point deductions.

Extras

Before we reach the end, let's take a look at the extras: Worth mentioning is the tinnitus program. Those who are plagued by bothersome ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, soft sounds are set in a way that they gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus sinks into the background noise and becomes hardly noticeable.

What about remote maintenance? Such online services save a visit to the specialist store, as you can contact an acoustic professional directly through the app. Unfortunately, we did not find anything like that for the Evolv AI 2000 IIC. Too bad, it would have been a great additional tool.

A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track, for example, some personal health data. However, the Evolv AI 2000 IIC does not offer this. This Starkey hearing aid does not have any additional lifestyle options on board. Elsewhere, there are voice assistants or reminder functions, but you don't need that for good hearing. It would have just made the product a bit cooler.
