Could this hearing aid from the Bernafon program be the right choice for you? In our review of the Entra A 1 MNR, we highlighted the most important aspects. Here we have a hearing aid of very small size at the lowest price level, worn behind the ear. By placing the speaker directly in the ear canal, the foundation for good hearing success is laid, as the sound has only a very short distance to travel to the eardrum. This ensures that all sounds reach us exactly where we want them.
The Entra A 1 MNR provides sufficient amplification for mild, moderate, and even severe hearing losses.
Hearing comfort
At least as important as speech understanding is hearing comfort. After all, our environment should sound as realistic and pleasant as possible. So let's take a look at noise management: In this model that Bernafon offers, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated to mitigate tiring background noises. In the Entra A 1 MNR, we have to settle for a minimum level of noise suppression. This hearing aid can recognize wind noise, but the reduction is barely noticeable.
A filter for rattling, popping noises is not present here – unfortunately, no points for that. Unfortunately, nothing can be said about spatial hearing; the microphones have no additional function that could enhance directional hearing. With 8 frequency bands, we are not completely satisfied with the MNR, but it should be sufficient for uncomplicated hearing curves. The sound is probably not entirely natural with this.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but the Entra A 1 MNR does not yet incorporate this strategy.

Operation & connectivity
Most functions are activated automatically by this Bernafon model. However, it can be very useful to be able to extend the range of functions a little. In our test, we found out what options we have here. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Entra A 1 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. A remote control is available for the Entra A 1 MNR. It's quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume option as well as various listening programs.
We are always excited when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control here. But it is currently not available in the Entra A 1 MNR. Tap Control would have also been an interesting feature. With this, you can change the function with a quick tap on the ear. But that is not available in the Entra A 1 MNR yet.
The app is definitely very useful. Anyone with a smartphone should download it. Even though the app is not one of our favorites, it is still a helpful addition to the Entra A 1 MNR. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone can be transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This makes the hearing aid a perfect hands-free device or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is also incredibly comfortable.

How does one cope with the hearing aid in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will evaluate. Because only when such a device works easily and uncomplicatedly can one become accustomed to it. We would have wished for a program automation in the Entra A 1 MNR that adjusts itself to the environment. However, this is not available, so unfortunately, points are deducted at this point. The adjustment to the new hearing sensation is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It adjusts the amplification in barely perceptible steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated. I don’t have to do anything else but wear my hearing aids regularly.
Many hearing aids today have a rechargeable battery, but the Entra A 1 MNR continues to operate with disposable batteries. This is somewhat cumbersome to handle and also burdens the environment.
The data sheet certifies the Bernafon device with an IP protection class rating of 68. This makes it one of the most resilient hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water cannot penetrate the casing as long as it doesn’t submerge deeper than 1.5 m. Still, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.

At the end of our test report, there is still a bit of space for the extra features: Here, we noticed the tinnitus option. For those who wish, a special tinnitus program can be set up. It can apply a gentle noise to the ears if needed, to distract from the irritating tinnitus. The sounds can be customized according to personal hearing preferences.
Bernafon keeps up with the times and offers a forward-thinking feature with the remote adjustment service. Busy people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer journey to the specialist shop also benefit from this special service.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Entra A 1 MNR. Then there are a few lifestyle functions that make your hearing aid a smart assistant. Connect with voice assistants like Siri, or discover what else is available in the app. While this may not have much to do with actual hearing, it can be extremely useful.
