The Oticon Jet 1 ITC in review

Leider müssen wir diese neuen Hörgeräte bereits mit einem Abschlag in der Gesamtnote bewerten, da eine alte Technik verbaut wurde.

Here we take a look at a hearing aid from the lowest price range that is worn in the ear. It is called Jet 1 ITC and comes from the manufacturer Oticon. It can be used by anyone who has a mild, moderate, or severe hearing need and desires a hearing aid of small size. Due to its direct placement in the ear canal, it has very good sound properties.

Hearing comfort

We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. However, from our experience in the hearing acoustics retail business, we also know that hearing comfort is at least equally important. This involves processing background noise in such a way that it does not restrict speech understanding, while still creating a realistic sound image. In testing the Jet 1 ITC, we found very few options for comfort adjustment. Let's take a look at the individual features:

Of course, this Oticon device has noise reduction, as it has become standard. Noise reduction means that uniform and rather monotonous sounds (e.g., air conditioning, vacuum cleaner ...) are dampened. Here, the manufacturer has integrated a simple noise reduction, but it cannot be adjusted further.

The impulse sound management is relatively simple; it dampens short loud noises a bit, which is okay. A rather solid wind management is available in the Jet 1 ITC and should be sufficient for everyday use. Let's take a quick look at the equalizer: With 10 bands, it is not particularly flexible. With a few more channels, we would surely have achieved a nicer, more natural sound experience. But at least we can reasonably adjust the sound to fit our hearing preference. We are still quite far from a 3D surround sound experience. Only the switchable forward focus provides some listening support in social situations.

Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet implemented in this hearing aid from Oticon.

Rating Hearing comfort: 4,2

Operation & connectivity

“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there perhaps an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let's take a look at the control and connection options. A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and one can adjust it to be louder or quieter in several steps. Additional programs for special hearing situations can also be activated with it. Those who prefer not to use the button can simply have it disabled. A remote control is available for the Jet 1 ITC. It is quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up-down option as well as various hearing programs.

In our tests, we did not find any option for voice control. This function is not necessarily required, but it would have been nice. Another option to control the hearing aids is a tap control. You simply tap your ear with your fingers, which triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Oticon device.

In the app stores, there is a free app that can be used if desired. We tried it out and went through it relatively quickly. The range of functions is rather modest. Nevertheless, it is a convenient and unobtrusive way to adjust the Jet 1 ITC temporarily. Issues with making phone calls on a smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are completely wirelessly transmitted to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer phone calls as well as for listening to music while exercising. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a suitable smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.

Our database contains 70 reviews of hearing aids with similar technical features to this one (i.e., In the ear (ITE) in mittelgroßer Ausführung in Size "", not rechargable, geeignet für Hörverlust-Grad leicht, mittel & stark). Here are the top 3 (Redaktionsstand 02.10.2025):

Simplicity & security

Another point on our checklist is handling. Does everything work simply and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? When it comes to adapting to changing hearing situations, we have to limit ourselves to manual options with the Jet 1 ITC. An automatic situation detection feature would have definitely made life easier, but it is not available here. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the volume of the hearing aid in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can relax and gradually get used to the new auditory impressions.

The Jet 1 ITC is not rechargeable. It continues to get its energy from disposable batteries of size 312, which must be changed every few days.

We had a carefree everyday life during our test due to the IP-68 certification. This indicates that the hearing aid is particularly well protected against dust and water. We marched through the rain and then took out the hearing aids with wet hands - no problem at all. However, the water resistance really only pertains to fresh, natural water and not to foamy bath water or salt water.

Rating Simplicity & security: 3,0

Extras

Finally, let's take a quick look at whether there are any extras: We particularly enjoyed the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently troubled by a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Jet 1 ITC is basically nothing more than a sound generator. It is designed to produce broad-spectrum noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all auditory areas. The tinnitus gets drowned out and is no longer perceived as bothersome.

A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce resource. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. Those who need a new programming for their hearing aids can easily contact the audiologist via the app and describe their hearing preferences. Through a cloud service, the professional can send an individual setting as a data package to the app. From there, it is loaded onto the hearing aid and can be tried out immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.

Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the Jet 1 ITC. Get even more out of the Jet 1 ITC by utilizing the smart lifestyle features. They expand the action radius of the hearing aids with various assistance programs and significantly enhance the functionality.
