Could this hearing aid from the Oticon program be the right one for you? In our review of the Jet 1 ITE HS, we highlighted the most important aspects. Here we have a small-sized hearing aid from the basic class that is worn in the ear. Due to its optimal position at the front of the ear canal, the foundation for good hearing success is laid, as the sound has only a very short path to the eardrum. This ensures that all sounds reach exactly where we want them to.

The Jet 1 ITE HS provides sufficient amplification for mild to profound hearing losses.

Hearing comfort

The comfort features determine how pleasant hearing is experienced in daily life. In this hearing aid, we found few options for comfort adjustment. A classic noise suppression aims to reduce annoying background noises to a manageable level. The Jet 1 ITE HS has a simple noise reduction integrated by the manufacturer, but it cannot be further adjusted. For windy situations outdoors, Oticon has provided a wind noise reduction feature. This is quite useful and is simply a part of modern comfort features.

The Jet 1 ITE HS also has impulse noise suppression. It reliably detects all short, clattering sounds, but the damping is rather minimal. We have to forgo spatial hearing with the Jet 1 ITE HS, but at least the microphones can be switched to a focus mode. The number of equalizer bands is very important for adjusting to hearing needs. The ITE HS only provides 10 and does not allow for many fine-tuning options in the long run.

Strategies based on artificial intelligence are not yet employed in this hearing aid from Oticon.

How can one fully utilize the potential of hearing aids in everyday life? We found out what access options are available with the Jet 1 ITE HS. One very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and one can increase or decrease the volume in several steps. Additional programs for specific listening situations can also be activated with it. Those who prefer to do without the button can simply have it deactivated. We do enjoy small remote controls, and we found one for this model. This allows for discreet adjustments to the volume or sound.

The modern method of operation via voice command is still not found in the Jet 1 ITE HS. Another option to control the hearing aids is a tap control. Here, you simply tap your fingers on your ear, which triggers a specific function. However, this option is not available in this Oticon device.

If one wishes, they can download an app. With it, you have a convenient and discreet way to change the volume or hearing programs on the Jet 1 ITE HS. Everything works quite well. The Jet 1 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy binaural phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normally hearing individuals. We find this good and are happy to give points.

Of course, we are also interested in how quickly one can get used to the Jet 1 ITE HS and how easy daily use is. Automatic environmental adaptation would certainly be helpful in everyday life, but unfortunately, it is not planned for the Jet 1 ITE HS. Therefore, we have to rely on manual adjustment options. Very important to us in terms of simplicity is the support during the adjustment period. Especially after having difficulties hearing for years, it can sometimes be hard to perceive everything at a natural sound level. In our test device, there is an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the acclimatization phase. After a few weeks or months, we have then reached the calculated amplification level.

The Jet 1 ITE HS relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long battery life with one battery. Unlike rechargeable solutions, you rarely have to worry about the power supply. Disadvantage: Waste is generated in the form of used batteries. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery of size 312.

With IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand a variety of adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it withstands prolonged immersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

Lastly, we are interested in whether there are any additional goodies on top: A special tinnitus program can be programmed in the Jet 1 ITE HS upon request. This allows for the generation of stimulating, pleasant sounds that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points.

Oticon keeps up with the times and provides a forward-thinking feature with the remote fitting service. Professionals with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer commute to the specialist shop also benefit from this special service.

Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Oticon model lacks the sensors for this service. There are also a few lifestyle features that turn your hearing aid into a smart assistant. Connect with voice assistants like Siri, or discover what else the app has to offer. While this may not have much to do with actual hearing, it can be extremely useful.
