Here we have a delicate, small hearing aid from the entry-level category that is worn behind the ear. By placing the speaker directly in the ear canal, the foundation for good hearing success is laid, as the sound has only a very short distance to travel to the eardrum. As a result, all sounds reach the point where we want them to.
The Jet 1 mini Ex T provides sufficient amplification for moderate, stronger, and fluctuating hearing losses.
Hearing comfort
Hearing aids are not only supposed to bring speech to the ear but also sound pleasant. So, let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for an active everyday life? Here with this test device, we found only limited options for influencing comfort. As with any hearing aid, it also includes typical noise cancellation. It is supposed to reduce uniform, rustling background noises to the point where they no longer dominate. In the Jet 1 mini Ex T, it only has a very limited effect. When looking at the price, this could indeed fit.
We assess the wind management as mediocre here, but it works. When rattling, clattering noises occur, the Oticon device activates its impulse sound dampener. Nevertheless, these noises remain quite intense. The number of equalizer bands is very important for adjusting to hearing needs. The mini Ex T only provides 10 and does not allow for many fine-tuning options in the long term. The microphones in the Jet 1 mini Ex T can be directed forward towards the line of sight. However, this is the only feature that slightly supports spatial hearing.
Other hearing aids already use artificial intelligence in their signal processing, but the Jet 1 mini Ex T does not yet incorporate this strategy.

Operation & connectivity
Most hearing aids automatically adjust to their surroundings. However, it is sometimes very practical to make changes yourself. After all, the hearing aid doesn't know how you are feeling at the moment. We took a look at the control options offered by the Jet 1 mini Ex T: Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found it on the Jet 1 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. A remote control for the hearing aid is available upon request. This allows for effortless volume adjustment. The handling is not only child’s play, but no one will notice that you are adjusting your hearing aids.
Voice commands are a relatively new way of operating hearing aids. However, in this model, we do not have this option yet. That's not too bad - the main thing is that you can hear well. Another option for controlling the hearing aids is through a tapping control. You simply tap your ear with your fingers, which triggers a specific function. But this possibility is not available in this Oticon device.
If you like, you can download an app. This provides a convenient and discreet way to change the volume or hearing programs on the Jet 1 mini Ex T. Everything works quite well. The Jet 1 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy telephone calls in stereo. This even gives us an advantage over normal hearing individuals. We find this great and gladly give points for it.

An important factor for the acceptance of a hearing aid is its practicality in everyday life. This includes, for example, automated functions as well as robustness and user-friendliness. The first points in the chapter on simplicity are missed by the Jet 1 mini Ex T, as it does not have automatic adaptation to the listening situation. We have to adjust it ourselves until we can cope with the respective hearing situation. Some people find it difficult to get used to it, but this hearing aid makes it easy for us to handle the new volume. There is a familiarization manager that gradually leads us to the required target amplification. The period can last a few weeks or even several months, and it is individually adjustable. The individual levels are so small that one does not even notice that there has been a volume increase.
Zinc-air batteries power the Jet 1 mini Ex T. Changing the battery could become quite difficult for people with limited dexterity or vision. If you have concerns about this, it is better to look for a rechargeable model.
The Jet 1 is nearly dust- and waterproof and, with its IP 68 rating, is certainly well protected against external influences.

We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which can be utilized. If one doesn’t have the opportunity to visit the hearing care professional, they can instead contact them through the app, briefly describe their hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, they can load it into their hearing aids.
Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Oticon model lacks the sensors for this service. With devices like this from Oticon, our test reports keep getting longer, as there are also intelligent additional functions. Various assistants make your life easier and are personalized in the app. While it is not strictly necessary, it is a lot of fun. For this, we give a good rating.
