The Oticon Jet 2 CIC in review
Abzug in der Gesamtbewertung erhält dieses Hörgerät, da Oticon eine alte Technik neu verpackt hat.
This test report is about the Jet 2 CIC. It was developed by Oticon and covers mild, moderate, and severe hearing needs. This variant is worn in the ear. Jet 2 CIC is a discreet, slim-shaped hearing aid from the basic class. We achieve clear sound transmission through the wearing position directly in the ear canal.
Hearing comfort
We all agree that speech understanding is the most important task of hearing aids. However, from our experience in the hearing aid specialist store, we also know that hearing comfort is at least as important. It is about processing background noise in a way that it does not restrict speech understanding, while still creating a natural sound image. When testing the Jet 2 CIC, we find only the absolutely necessary regarding hearing comfort. Let's look at the individual features:
Of course, this Oticon device has noise suppression, as that has become standard. Noise suppression means that uniform and rather monotonous sounds (e.g., air conditioning, vacuum cleaner ...) are attenuated. Here, there is only a very slight noise reduction included.
Unfortunately, we did not find a blast filter that reacts to short, loud noises. A decent wind management helps to suppress small turbulences at the hearing aid microphones. For all outdoor lovers, this function is indispensable. An important point in our tests is the number of frequency bands. It plays a role when it comes to the precise programming of the hearing aids. This number is also important when distinguishing between speech and sounds. Here we have 8 bands. A few more could have been included, as this unfortunately limits the finer adjustments we can make. However, those who do not place so much value on a brilliant sound experience might get along quite well with the Jet 2 CIC. Unfortunately, spatial hearing is not that developed. The hearing aids can focus forward, but that does not help when trying to determine from which direction a car is approaching or where someone is calling from.
An exciting topic in hearing acoustics is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet applied in this Oticon model.
Rating Hearing comfort: 4,7
Operation & connectivity
“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there perhaps an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let’s take a look at the operation and connectivity options. Most of the time, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Jet 2 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can be deactivated if desired. Can the Jet 2 be remote-controlled? Unfortunately not, there is no suitable device available here.
We are always pleased when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional feature. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. But it is currently not available in the Jet 2 CIC. Control of the hearing aids with a simple tap of the finger is not possible with this Oticon model, as certain sensors would have been needed in the housing for that.
An appropriate app is also provided for us. In everyday life, the app should suffice, but it offers little more than a volume function and the ability to access different hearing programs. Unfortunately, wireless connectivity options are completely absent in this version. This is not quite up to date, but it is probably due to the small size of the hearing aid.

Simplicity & security
Let's continue with the test: How is the user-friendliness? Is it easy or complicated to handle the hearing aid? An automatic environmental adjustment would certainly be helpful in everyday life, but unfortunately, it is not provided in the Jet 2 CIC. Therefore, we have to rely on the manual adjustment options. A great feature of this hearing aid is the automatic acclimatization. Especially when someone has been hearing poorly for a long time and then wears a hearing aid for the first time, this is a tremendous relief. The volume does not have to be immediately set to maximum. You can start at a lower level and gradually and almost imperceptibly, the amplification approaches the target.
Zinc-air batteries power the Jet 2 CIC. Changing the battery could be quite cumbersome for people with limited dexterity or vision. If you have concerns about this, it would be better to look for a rechargeable model.
With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand a variety of adverse conditions. Dust cannot penetrate, it can endure prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against touch.

Extras
Finally, we want to know if the hearing aid might offer any specials: We really liked the optional tinnitus program. There are quite a few people who are occasionally or frequently troubled by a ringing or buzzing in their ears. The tinnitus program in the Jet 2 CIC is actually nothing more than a sound generator. It aims to produce broad-spectrum noises or sounds that gently and pleasantly stimulate all areas of hearing. The tinnitus is masked within it and is no longer perceived as disturbing.
Unfortunately, there is no option for remote adjustment. So, anyone who needs optimization and wants to change their hearing aid settings must visit an acoustic professional.
Many hearing aids still come with a few health functions today. However, since the Jet 2 CIC does not have any specific sensors for that, we cannot present any particular features here. The hearing aid does not include additional functions such as special assistance systems, a fall alarm, or a language translator. This is not a big issue since it does not affect the important hearing functions.

Conclusion: Oticon Jet 2 CIC
In the overall view, this device ranks in the lower positions and delivers us barely more than a solid basic equipment. Of course, one can understand speech with the device, just like with all hearing aids, but not much is done to alleviate the listening effort. Our overall rating: 4.5. Please always relate this rating to the price range of this hearing aid.
