Oticon offers the Jet 2 ITC, a small hearing aid that is worn in the ear. It is a hearing aid from the most affordable price range and is suitable for both mild and more severe hearing needs. The optimal position at the front of the ear canal ensures that sound reaches the eardrum without losses.

Hearing comfort

The comfort features determine how enjoyable hearing is experienced in everyday life. In this hearing aid, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. A classic noise suppression is intended to reduce annoying background noises to a tolerable level. In the Jet 2 ITC, it works only very limitedly. When looking at the price, this might be quite fitting. A fairly solid wind management is available in the Jet 2 ITC and should suffice for everyday use.

Points are deducted for the lack of impulse sound suppression. Normally, this would dampen short, rattling noises. But those who choose this hearing aid should not be bothered by that. We are currently very far from a 3D sound experience. Only the switchable forward focus provides a bit of hearing support in social situations. Let’s briefly look at the equalizer: With 8 bands, it is not particularly flexible. With a few more channels, we could have certainly achieved a nicer, more natural sound experience. But at least, we can reasonably adjust the sound to our hearing perception.

An exciting topic in audiology is the use of artificial intelligence, but this is not yet applied in this Oticon model.

“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there perhaps an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let's take a look at the operating and connection options. First of all, we found a button directly on the hearing aid. This is very sensible, as it is the simplest and fastest way to make adjustments. The volume can be adjusted with it, and various hearing programs can also be activated. If one prefers not to adjust anything directly on the ear, the button can of course be disabled. Those who don’t like touching their ear to turn up the volume will appreciate the optional remote control. This allows for convenient and discreet adjustments to the hearing aid.

For some time now, there has been a trend to adjust hearing aids louder or quieter using voice commands. The idea is really good, but Oticon is not quite there with this device yet. Don’t worry, this feature would be nice but is not essential. There is no control of the hearing aids with a simple tap in this Oticon model, as certain sensors in the housing would have been needed for that.

For those who like, an app can be downloaded. This provides a convenient and discreet way to change the volume or the hearing programs on the Jet 2 ITC. Everything works quite well. One of the best features of the hearing aid is the direct streaming function. This turns the hearing aid into a TrueWireless headset, receiving phone calls and other sounds directly in the ear. The requirement is a compatible smartphone that contains 2.4 GHz technology. The biggest advantage is that phone calls can be heard in both ears, not just one. Additionally, the sound can be tailored to personal needs.

Another point on our checklist is handling. Does everything work simply and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? When it comes to relaxed listening, the Jet 2 ITC is only easy if you predominantly stay in quiet listening environments. If it gets louder or more challenging, we receive no support from adaptive situational automation. If at all, one can only help with manual controls. We are very pleased with the integrated acclimatization manager. It gradually increases the hearing aid's volume in tiny steps until our target amplification is eventually reached. We can comfortably and gradually get used to the new sound experiences.

The Jet 2 is nearly dust and water-resistant and, with its IP 68 classification, is certainly well protected against external influences.

Sometimes there are additional features in hearing aids that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Oticon device: Noteworthy is the tinnitus program. Those who suffer from annoying ear noises will benefit from it. Pleasant, quiet sounds are set so that they gently surround the tinnitus. In the end, the tinnitus fades into the background noise and no longer stands out disturbingly.

A very good additional benefit comes from the remote maintenance offer. Through the app, you can contact your hearing care professional and explain your hearing problem. They can adjust the settings accordingly and upload them to the hearing aids via the app. For people with little time or a long commute, this is a great service.

Tracking health data is a real added value in modern hearing aids. However, this Oticon model lacks the sensors for this service. Get even more out of the Jet 2 ITC by utilizing the smart lifestyle features. They expand the range of action of the hearing aids with various assistance programs and significantly enhance the functionality.
