The Oticon Jet 2 ITE HS in review

Wir haben diese Geräte bereits mit einem generellen Abschlag versehen, da Oticon sie mit einer alten Technik bestückt hat.

Oticon offers the Jet 2 ITE HS, a discreet hearing aid that is worn in the ear. It is a basic class hearing aid suitable for mild, moderate, and also severe hearing needs. Its position in the front part of the ear canal ensures that sound reaches the eardrum without loss.

Hearing comfort

Hearing aids are not only supposed to bring speech to the ear but also sound pleasant. So let's first look at the comfort features. What types of noise does the hearing aid recognize? Are they dampened or transmitted unchanged? Is the hearing aid suitable for a lively everyday life? Here with this test device, we only find the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. As in every hearing aid, typical noise cancellation is also included here. It is supposed to reduce uniform, noisy background sounds to the point where they no longer dominate so much. With the Jet 2 ITE HS, it only works very limitedly. Looking at the price, this might well fit.

A decent wind management helps suppress small turbulence at the hearing aid microphones. For all outdoor lovers, this function is essential. A so-called noise filter would have been nice; it would have made the clattering when unloading the dishwasher a bit more bearable. But we have to forgo that with the Jet 2 ITE HS. The number of equalizer bands is very important for adapting to hearing needs. The ITE HS only provides us with 8 and does not allow for many long-term fine-tuning options. Unfortunately, spatial hearing is not very advanced. The hearing aids can focus forward, but this does not help when one wants to determine from which direction a car is approaching or where someone is calling from.

Sometimes we encounter hearing aids that successfully process data using artificial intelligence, but this device has not yet reached that point.

Rating Hearing comfort: 4,7

Operation & connectivity

Almost everyone among us owns a smartphone, which raises the question of whether it can be connected to the new hearing aid. Let’s take a look at the connectivity and operability of the Jet 2 ITE HS. There is usually a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Jet 2 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or a program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is with the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person you're speaking with is too quiet again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or for driving can also be activated using the remote control.

For some time now, there has been a trend of adjusting hearing aids louder or quieter with voice commands. The idea is really good, but Oticon hasn't implemented that feature in this device yet. Don't worry, this feature would be nice, but it’s not essential. In addition to buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have tap control. This means you can just tap your ear briefly, and the device will switch. However, this feature is not available here at Oticon, as it would have required specific sensors.

If you like, you can download an app. It provides a convenient and discreet way to change the volume or hearing programs on the Jet 2 ITE HS. Everything works quite well. Problems with phone calls on the smartphone are a thing of the past with this device. Phone calls, music, and other sounds are completely wirelessly transmitted to the hearing aids. Headphones become unnecessary. We tested the wireless transmission during longer calls and while listening to music during sports. Everything worked simply and smoothly. Only a compatible smartphone with 2.4 GHz wireless technology is needed.

Simplicity & security

How does one cope with hearing aids in everyday life? This is the next aspect we will evaluate. Because only when such a device functions easily and uncomplicatedly can one get used to it. We would have liked to see an automatic program in the Jet 2 ITE HS that adjusts itself to the environment. However, that is not available, so unfortunately, there's a deduction at this point. The adjustment to the new hearing experience is supported by this device with a fully automatic acclimatization manager. It gradually adjusts the amplification in barely noticeable steps until my hearing loss is completely compensated for. I have to do nothing more than wear my hearing aids regularly.

The Jet 2 ITE HS relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long runtime with one battery. Unlike rechargeable solutions, you hardly ever have to think about the power supply. Disadvantage: It generates waste in the form of used batteries. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery size 312.

Let's also take a look at the robustness of the casing and discover in the data sheet the protection class IP 68. This means dust cannot penetrate at all, and water only becomes hazardous after prolonged immersion. Protection against contact is also included.

Extras

Finally, let's take a quick look at whether there are any additional features: A special tinnitus program can be programmed in the Jet 2 ITE HS upon request. This allows stimulating, pleasant sounds to be generated that distract from the tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and gladly award extra points.

A clever tool is the integrated remote maintenance service. Almost everyone has a smartphone, and time is a scarce resource. Therefore, such a remote maintenance service is absolutely appropriate. Anyone needing a new programming for their hearing aids can easily contact the audiologist through the app and describe their hearing preferences. Via a cloud service, the professional can then send an individual adjustment as a data package to the app. From there, it is uploaded to the hearing aid and can be tried out immediately. This definitely deserves extra points in our test.

If Oticon had integrated motion sensors into this hearing aid, individual health tracking could even be possible. However, that is not the case here. These points are lost for the Jet 2 ITE HS in the rating. With devices like this from Oticon, our test reports are getting longer, as there are now intelligent additional functions as well. Various assistants make your life easier and are personalized in the app. While this is not strictly necessary, it is a lot of fun. For this, we give a good rating.
