The Jet 2 mini Ex from Oticon is a thin, small hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. Its use as the comfortable position of the speaker in the ear canal allows for very good sound transmission. The Jet 2 mini Ex is a hearing aid at the lowest price level and is suitable for mild, moderate, and severe hearing needs.
Hearing comfort
The hearing comfort determines whether someone enjoys wearing their hearing aids or not. That's why we first looked at how the hearing aid deals with background noise. In this model, which Oticon presents to us, we find only the absolute essentials regarding hearing comfort. Of course, noise suppression is integrated, which is supposed to mitigate tiring background sounds. In the Jet 2 mini Ex, there is only a minimal basic attenuation. A certain noise tolerance should already be expected from the hearing aid user here. We rate the wind management as mediocre, but it works.
Even in cheaper hearing aids, we often find a damping for impulsive, rattling noises today. But unfortunately, this clever tool is not included here, which is a pity. The spatial hearing is unfortunately not very advanced. The hearing aids can focus forward, but that doesn't help when trying to determine from which direction a car is approaching or where someone is calling from. The number of equalizer bands is very important for adapting to hearing needs. The mini Ex only provides us with 8 and does not allow for many fine-tuning options in the long run.
The signal processing is based, among other things, on typical frequency patterns of speech and noise, but artificial intelligence is not yet being utilized here.

“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there perhaps an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let’s take a look at the operating and connection options. Usually, there is a button on the hearing aid, and we found one on the Jet 2 as well. It can be configured as a volume control or program selection button and can also be disabled if desired. A remote control is available for the Jet 2 mini Ex. It is quite handy, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up-down option as well as various listening programs.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Oticon unfortunately cannot yet. This would be practical if fingers are not as flexible anymore, or if you simply like smart gadgets. In addition to buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also feature tap control. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and the device switches. However, we do not have this feature at Oticon, as it would have required specific sensors.
If you like, you can download an app. This provides a convenient and discreet way to change the volume or listening programs on the Jet 2 mini Ex. It all works quite well. We really enjoyed the direct, wireless streaming. This means that calls from the smartphone can be transmitted to the hearing aids without any additional accessories. This turns the hearing aid into a perfect hands-free system or wireless headphones. Listening to music or watching and hearing videos is also incredibly comfortable.

User-friendliness is the next aspect we want to address. It's about practicality in everyday life and the question of how easy and safe it is to go through life with the hearing aid. When it comes to adapting to changing hearing situations, we have to limit ourselves to the manual options with the Jet 2 mini Ex. An automatic situation recognition feature would definitely have made life easier, but it is not available here. Very important in terms of simplicity is the support during the acclimatization process. Especially after having heard poorly for years, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. Our test device has an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the adaptation phase. After a few weeks or months, we have then reached the calculated amplification level.
Jet 2 mini Ex relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long runtime with one battery. Unlike rechargeable solutions, you only need to worry about the power supply very rarely. Disadvantage: It generates waste in the form of used batteries. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery size 312.
The hearing aid has been rated with an IP68 protection class. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water cannot easily harm the hearing aid either. It is therefore well equipped for outdoor activities, where it can get wet and dirty. However, do not go swimming or bathing with the hearing aids. Bath additives or the salt content in seawater can alter the composition and ultimately cause damage.

At the end of our test report, there is still a little space for extra features: A special tinnitus program can be programmed in the Jet 2 mini Ex upon request. This allows stimulating, pleasant sounds to be generated that distract from tinnitus when it is particularly strong. We find this very useful and are happy to award extra points. A real added value is the remote maintenance service. For a change in hearing aid settings, you no longer have to go to the specialist store; you can directly contact the audiologist via the app. Through a cloud service, you can then load the new data package into the hearing aids. This is exactly what we expect from a modern hearing aid. A new trend in the hearing aid industry is integrated sensors that can track a few personal health data, but the Jet 2 mini Ex does not offer this. Get even more out of the Jet 2 mini Ex by utilizing the smart lifestyle functions. They expand the range of actions of the hearing aids with various assistance programs and significantly enhance the functionality.
