Oticon presents the Jet 2 mini Ex T, a model from the most affordable price range. It can compensate for moderate, more severe, and fluctuating hearing losses. It is a small mini hearing aid that delivers good sound by placing the speaker directly in the ear canal. It is worn behind the ear.
Hearing comfort
What is most annoying for hearing aid users? Exactly, background noise. Therefore, let's first look at what comfort features the test device contains. The Jet 2 mini Ex T offers only the bare minimum when it comes to hearing comfort. A standard noise suppression feature is definitely present. It is supposed to dampen constant sounds like traffic noise or the hum of air conditioning. In our test device from Oticon, we have to settle for a minimal level of noise suppression.
Unfortunately, we did not find a noise filter that responds to short, loud sounds. For windy situations outdoors, Oticon has implemented wind noise reduction. This is quite useful and is simply part of modern comfort features. The eight frequency channels are okay. However, it may be that the programming does not achieve precise adjustments to individual hearing needs, and one might have to make some auditory compromises. This device lacks natural spatial hearing, which presents some difficulties in everyday life. We can no longer reliably detect directions. Additionally, those with limited vision should consider choosing a different hearing aid.

Operation & connectivity
The majority of the functions are automatically activated by this Oticon model. However, it can sometimes be very useful to have the option to extend the functionality a bit further. In our testing, we discovered what options we have here. A very quick way to adjust the volume is the small button on the device. It is easy to feel, and you can adjust the volume in several steps, getting louder or quieter. Additional programs for specific hearing situations can also be activated this way. If someone prefers to do without the button, it can simply be deactivated. A discreet way to adjust the hearing aid is with the remote control. It fits in any pocket. If the person next to you is speaking too softly again, just one or two clicks are enough to adjust the volume. Additional hearing programs for listening to music or driving can also be activated with the remote control.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Oticon unfortunately cannot. It would be practical for those whose fingers are not as mobile anymore or for those who simply like smart gadgets. This Oticon model does not offer control of the hearing aids with a simple finger tap, as specific sensors in the housing would have been required for that.
In the app stores, there is a free app that can be used upon request. We tried it out and were relatively quick to navigate it. The range of functions is rather modest. Nevertheless, it is a convenient and unobtrusive way to temporarily adjust the Jet 2 mini Ex T differently. For our digital everyday life, a streaming option would be nice. The present device meets our desire and comes with a 2.4 GHz radio module. This allows phone calls and sounds to be sent directly from the smartphone to the hearing aids.

Another point in our checklist is handling. Does everything work easily and reliably? What does the hearing aid offer to ensure safe use in everyday life? The first points in the simplicity chapter are wasted by the Jet 2 mini Ex T, as it does not have automatic situational adjustment. We have to manually adjust it until we are comfortable in the respective hearing situation. We award a big plus point for the automatic acclimatization assistant. It gradually increases the starting volume in very small steps until my hearing goal is reached. This considerably eases the adjustment to the new sound.
Jet 2 mini Ex T relies on battery power instead of rechargeable batteries. Advantage: Very long runtime with one battery. Unlike rechargeable solutions, one rarely has to worry about the power supply. Disadvantage: Waste is generated in the form of used batteries. This hearing aid uses a hearing aid battery of size 312.
With an IP 68 certification, the hearing aid can withstand various adverse influences. Dust cannot penetrate, it can endure prolonged submersion in water, and it is also protected against contact.

Before we come to the end, let's take a look at the extras: Are you among those suffering from tinnitus? Then you might want to use the optional tinnitus program on the Jet 2 mini Ex T. Soft, gentle sounds are tailored to your hearing and engage all areas of the inner ear. It's nothing more than a distraction maneuver, and it works remarkably well. The tinnitus fades into the general noise and is no longer annoying. It's a simple yet effective tool and earns extra points from us.
We find the remote maintenance service exciting, which you can take advantage of. If you don't have the opportunity to visit the audiologist, you can contact them via the app instead, briefly describe your hearing problem, and then receive a data package with a new hearing aid configuration. If it sounds good, you can upload it to your hearing aids.
Many hearing aids today still come with a few health functions. However, since the Jet 2 mini Ex T doesn't have any special sensors for that, we can't present any particular features here. This Oticon device does have a few small highlights. Depending on what your smartphone supports, you can set reminders for appointments, access Siri, or utilize other assistance systems. This definitely earns another extra point.
