The ReSound Key 2 67-DW in review

Diese Technik ist nicht mehr ganz aktuell. Wir nehmen daher eine Abwertung in der Gesamtnote vor.

The Key 2 67-DW from ReSound is a traditional hearing aid worn behind the ear. The customer receives a small mini hearing aid from the basic class, which can compensate for mild to moderate hearing loss.

Hearing comfort

What is most annoying for hearing aid users: Exactly, background noise. That’s why we first look at the comfort features of the test device. With the Key 2 67-DW, we find only the absolutely necessary regarding hearing comfort. Normal noise suppression is definitely present. It is supposed to dampen constant noises like street noise or the hum of an air conditioner. In our test device from ReSound, the manufacturer has integrated a simple noise reduction, but it cannot be adjusted further.

Even in cheaper hearing aids, we often find damping for impulsive, rattling noises today. However, this clever tool is sadly not included here. We found a basic wind detection, but unfortunately, it is not adjustable. The Key 2 67-DW has only 6 frequency bands and barely meets the minimum requirements. One should not have overly high expectations regarding sound quality. Orientation in space, locating sounds or speakers is rather difficult with this hearing aid. There are no supporting functions for the microphones. We can hardly give points here, and we recommend thinking about this. After all, spatial hearing also helps to find one’s way in public spaces and in traffic.

ReSound does not use artificial intelligence in this version yet.

Rating Hearing comfort: 5,2

Operation & connectivity

“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there maybe an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, which is why we will take a look at the operating and connection options. The simplest operation method is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it too. It can be programmed according to your wishes. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for step-by-step adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you want to leave everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. The small remote control, which is available optionally, is very practical. For us, it's one of the most convenient ways to increase or decrease the volume or switch to another hearing program. No one notices anything; reaching for the ear is not necessary.

We always appreciate it when a hearing aid surprises us with a great additional function. For example, we would have liked to see voice control at this point. But it is currently not available in the Key 2 67-DW. Besides buttons or remote controls, some hearing aids also have a tap control feature. This means you can simply tap your ear briefly, and then the device switches over. However, we don’t have that here at ReSound; it would have required very specific sensors.

To improve usability, the manufacturer also provides us with an app for smartphones. The ReSound app for Key 2 67-DW is impressive: You can not only change the volume but really influence the sound and various noise parameters. You don’t need headphones here anymore, as it has a wireless option and can transmit sounds from the smartphone directly to the ears - if the smartphone is equipped with 2.4 GHz LE technology.

Simplicity & security

We are also interested in how quickly one can get along with the Key 2 67-DW and how easy daily use is. Unfortunately, when it comes to simple listening, the Key 2 67-DW does not fare so well. The situation automatic is quite stripped down, providing little support when it gets loud around us. This can be compensated by using the manual adjustment options. However, this hardly scores points in terms of simplicity. An automatic acclimatization manager is especially useful for those using a hearing aid for the first time. The volume is slowly adjusted to the target amplification over a longer period. Unfortunately, we did not discover a suitable tool during our test, so: no points for that.

The 67-DW from Key 2 operates with disposable 312 batteries and is not rechargeable. This has advantages and disadvantages. For the decision of "battery or rechargeable," we have provided some help here: Rechargeable hearing aids or batteries: 6 criteria for your decision.

The data sheet certifies the ReSound device with an IP protection class of 68. This makes it one of the most robust hearing aids on the market. Dust has no chance, and water does not enter the housing as long as it is not submerged deeper than 1.5 m. Nevertheless, be cautious. Shampoo, for example, alters the surface tension of water. You should also avoid saltwater. However, in everyday life, you can behave completely carefree.

Extras

Finally, we want to know if the hearing aid perhaps offers any specials: We noticed the tinnitus option. Those who wish can have a special tinnitus program set up. This applies a gentle noise to the ears if needed, to distract from the annoying tinnitus. The sounds can be tailored to personal hearing preferences.

ReSound is keeping up with the times and offers a forward-looking feature with the remote adjustment service. Working people with little time can contact their audiologist online and have their hearing aids reprogrammed. Hearing aid users who have a longer commute to the specialist store also benefit from this special service.

There are no sensors in this Key 2 variant, so the popular health tracking cannot be offered. For example, steps are counted throughout the day. As mentioned - this hearing aid does not have that function on board. It would have been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but these are not available in the Key 2 67-DW. Other hearing aids may have speech translation or fall alerts, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.

Conclusion: ReSound Key 2 67-DW

In the overall result, this test device lands in the lower rankings and misses some features. We award a grade of 3.51. For less demanding listeners, this is acceptable, but for a very active lifestyle, we recommend a hearing aid with more extensive comfort features.
