Our testers have taken a closer look at another hearing aid at the lowest price point. We present: The Audio Service G5 4 Duo. Here we have a traditional hearing aid that is worn behind the ear. It can be used by anyone looking to compensate for mild to moderate hearing loss. The G5 4 Duo is a discreet hearing aid. Is it worth buying this model? We will reveal the details.
Hearing comfort
First, we looked at the comfort features. The better these are, the easier and more pleasant the listening experience will be. In this hearing aid, we find only the bare minimum concerning listening comfort. The traditional noise suppression helps to reduce uniform, unimportant sounds slightly. The G5 4 Duo has only a minimal basic reduction. The hearing aid user should have a certain tolerance for noise here. When the wind sweeps over the microphones outside in nature, we wish for a wind noise reduction. However, this is lacking here, and in some outdoor situations, it can significantly affect listening comfort.
Unfortunately, we did not find a noise filter that reacts to short, loud sounds. We are currently far from 3D surround sound here. Only the switchable forward focus provides a little listening support in social situations. The 8 frequency channels are okay. However, it may be that the programming does not fully meet individual hearing needs, and one might have to make some compromises in sound quality.
Audio Service is not yet using artificial intelligence in this version.

Operation & connectivity
“Can I adjust something on my hearing aid myself?” “Is there possibly an app?” These and similar questions are becoming increasingly important when choosing a hearing aid, so let’s take a look at the control and connection options. The simplest control option is always a button directly on the hearing aid. This one has it as well. It can be programmed entirely to your liking. Do you want a manual volume control? No problem, the button allows for a stepwise adjustment of the volume. Or do you need different special programs for your professional life or hobbies? These can also be activated via the button. If you want to keep everything in automatic mode, you can simply ignore the button or even have it deactivated. A remote control is available for the G5 4 Duo. It's quite practical, fits in your pocket, and offers a volume up-down option as well as various hearing programs.
Some hearing aids can already be controlled by voice, but this one from Audio Service unfortunately cannot yet. That would be useful if your fingers are not as nimble anymore or if you simply like smart gadgets. Some hearing aids can also be controlled with a quick tap of the finger, without having to press a button. This feature, however, has not yet been implemented here.
A suitable app will also be provided to us. In everyday life, the app should suffice, but it doesn’t offer much more than a volume function and access to different hearing programs. The G5 4 comes with a 2.4 GHz antenna and allows us to enjoy bilateral phone calls. This even gives us an advantage over normally hearing people. We think that’s great and gladly give points.

Simplicity & security
We are of course also interested in how quickly one adapts to the G5 4 Duo and how easy daily use is. The first points in the chapter on simplicity are overshadowed by the G5 4 Duo, as it does not have automatic sound adjustment. We have to manually adjust it until we can manage in the respective hearing situation. Very important to us in terms of simplicity is the support during the acclimatization process. Especially after hearing poorly for many years, it is sometimes difficult to perceive everything at a natural volume. In our test device, there is an acclimatization manager that helps us with very small volume adjustments throughout the acclimatization phase. After a few weeks or months, we then reach the calculated amplification level.
The G5 4 Duo receives its power from small disposable batteries that need to be replaced every few days. While this is not rocket science, it should be considered, especially with motor-related issues. A rechargeable battery would be much easier to handle.
The hearing aid has been classified in the IP protection class 68. This guarantees comprehensive protection against dust ingress. Water also cannot easily harm the hearing aid. Thus, it is well-equipped for outdoor activities where it can get wet and dirty. However, you should still not necessarily bathe or swim with the hearing aids. Bath additives or even the salt content in seawater alter the composition and can ultimately cause damage.

Extras
Sometimes, hearing aids have additional features that can be quite useful. Let's see how it is with this Audio Service device: First, we look for a special tinnitus program. Ear noises are a troublesome topic for many people. However, we did not find an option for tinnitus relief in the G5 4 Duo.
A nice feature would be a remote maintenance service to receive help from a hearing professional even when one cannot make it to the store. Unfortunately, this is not available here, so there are no extra points for that.
Some hearing aids can track certain health data. However, this requires special sensors in the hearing aid, which we unfortunately do not have in the G5 4 Duo. It would have also been nice to have a few lifestyle features, but those are not available in the G5 4 Duo. Other hearing aids can score points with language translators or fall alarms, but here it remains within the usual range of functions.
